Functional Responsibilities:
ECA’s mission is to deliver ideas and actions for an empowered and transformed Africa; informed by the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063.
The mission will be guided by ECA’s five strategic directions which are: advancing ECA’s position as a premier knowledge institution that builds on its unique position and privilege to bring global solutions to the continent’s problems and take local solutions to the continent;
developing macroeconomic and structural policy options to accelerate economic diversification and job creation; designing and implementing innovative financing models for infrastructure, and for human,
physical and social assets for a transforming Africa; contributing solutions to regional and transboundary challenges, with a focus on peace security and social inclusion as an important development nexus; advocating Africa’s position at the global level and developing regional responses as a contribution to global governance issues. This internship assignment is in the Organization Development Unit (ODU), Human Resources Management Section (HRMS), Division of Administration (DoA), United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA).
The internship programme is for a period of six months, depending on the needs of the section. The Intern works under the direct supervision of the Senior Staff Development Assistant and the overall guidance of the Chief of the Organization Development Unit (ODU) of the Human Resources Management Section (HRMS). Daily responsibilities will vary and depend on the individual’s background, including but not limited to:
• Support the update and improvement of the O-Induction on our Moodle platform.
• Support the language center with the monitoring and documenting of the language class attendance. • Contribute to the “Career and Learning Stop Shop” – coordinating schedules, and collaborating on career support offerings.
• Contribute to conceptualizing a skills inventory to align subject experts with mentees for informal internal mentoring processes.
• Reviewing and providing input on the design of HR dashboards and compilation of statistical data
• Providing administrative support to ongoing projects
Be enrolled in, or have completed, a first degree or graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) is required
Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. However, Your training, education, advanced course work, or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
An academic background in adult education, Human Resources Management, or management studies is desirable
Prior experience with survey design, analyzing data, and presenting data is desirable (E) Excellent computer skills with Microsoft applications; experience with Moodle would be an advantage. Work experience is not required for this internship programme.
Experience:
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience.
Knowledge of the usage of Google Suite applications is an added advantage.
Language:
Fluency in written, reading and oral English is required.
Knowledge of another UN official language is an asset.
Computer Literacy
Knowledge & usage of Google suite applications is an asset.
