Job Description

Description: JSI is seeking a dedicated IT Support and Cybersecurity Officer to join our corporate IT team. This dual-role position involves providing traditional helpdesk support while continuously monitoring for cybersecurity threats. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, excellent problem-solving abilities, an eagerness to learn, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to adapt to the evolving cybersecurity landscape.

This position will be based in Addis Ababa, and the role is primarily remote, necessitating a reliable, high-speed internet connection. In-person presence may be required from time to time in one of JSI’s Addis Ababa offices. This position also requires the ability to work off-hours, including nights and weekends, and occasional overtime. The officer will report to a Team Lead based in JSI’s US office.

Responsibilities:

Helpdesk Support:

●     Provide first-level technical support to end-users via phone and email.

●     Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues.

●     Install, configure, and maintain computer systems, software, and peripherals.

●     Assist in the setup and deployment of new equipment and software.

●     Document and track all support requests and resolutions in the helpdesk ticketing system.

●     Provide end-user training and support for various IT systems and applications.

Cybersecurity Monitoring:

●     Continuously monitor network traffic and system logs for security incidents and threats.

●     Respond to and investigate security alerts, escalating issues as necessary.

●     Assist in the implementation and maintenance of security policies, procedures, and controls.

●     Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and security audits.

●     Maintain and update antivirus, firewall, and other security systems.

●     Provide support in the development and enforcement of security awareness training for staff.

●     Collaborate with the IT team to develop and implement incident response plans.

 Job Requirement

Education and Work Requirements:

●     A Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent experience) is required.

●     IT certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, or equivalent preferred.

●     At least 3 years of experience in IT systems or network administration or in a helpdesk environment required.

●     Some experience or familiarity with cybersecurity principles and practices required.

●     Familiarity with cybersecurity tools and practices, such as antivirus software, firewalls, and intrusion detection/prevention systems, as well as knowledge of current cybersecurity threats and best practices for mitigating them required.

●     Proficiency in troubleshooting and resolving hardware, software, and network issues.

●     Experience with security information and event management (SIEM) solutions.

Technical Requirements:

●     Abilities and experiences at writing scripts in any of the following: powershell, python, php, perl, bash etc.

●     Good understanding of TCP/IP, common networking ports and protocols, traffic flow, system administration, OSI model, defense-in-depth and common security elements.

●     Understanding of vulnerability scanning solutions and interpreting results.

●     The ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment between security policies and business objectives.

●     The ability to provide technical expertise and support for ongoing maintenance and optimization of EDR solutions.

●     Experience in monitoring system performance, security events, and alerts to identify and mitigate potential threats or vulnerabilities.

●     The ability to develop and maintain documentation, procedures, and guidelines for system administration tasks related to EDR Products.

●     Experience with SIEM solutions to assist in detecting, analyzing and responding to security threats.

●     Good understanding of Linux and Windows Operating Systems.

●     Experience using and monitoring DNS control technologies like Cisco Umbrella.

●     Experience monitoring Asset Management solutions to track machines and installed software.

●     Experience with Incident Investigations, understanding and deploying signatures/configurations (e.g. YARA, Snort, Suricata, HIPS, Sysmon), understanding of Critical Security Controls and interpretation of CIS Benchmarks security control, and experience in Identity and access management (IAM) solutions are all pluses

Other Requirements:

●     Based in Ethiopia and ability to work remotely from your home (must have a stable and reliable internet connection)

●     Ability to work an “off-hours” shift (overnight and weekend shifts)

●     Ability to work overtime and/or be “on call” as needed

●     Experience working with international NGOs or for a global organization

●     Be comfortable being an individual contributor working with a small team, in a cohesive setting;

●     Be a fast learner and able to dissect complex issues in a timely manner.

●     Be able to keep abreast of the continuous changes in the cyber security landscape.

●     Be able to shift focus on the cybersecurity realm as priorities change.

●     Have strong problem-solving capabilities and attention to detail.

●     Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

●     Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in English.

●     Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
