About Ayuda en Acción:  

Ayuda en Acción Foundation is a secular, non-partisan international non-governmental organisation (NGO) established in 1981 with a global commitment to fight against poverty, inequality, and exclusion. Its headquarters is in Madrid, Spain. The organisation operates in 20 countries within Africa, South and Central America and Europe (Spain, Portugal). In Ethiopia, Ayuda en Acción has supported a range of humanitarian and development interventions through local and international partners between 2002 and 2017; an independent country programme was established in 2018. Ayuda en Acción Ethiopia aspires to tackle poverty, inequalities and exclusion that perpetuate poverty. The organisation perceives women, men, girls, and boys as the center of its efforts in the country, giving it an impetus to strengthen people’s and institutions’ capacities to meaningfully contribute to development and dignified life of all in Ethiopia. To achieve its mission, Ayuda en Acción Ethiopia has worked in the region of Afar, Oromia and south Ethiopia in close cooperation with local and international partners, international research institutes, public agencies, and private sector actors.  

Objective and reporting line: 

Ayuda en Acción Ethiopia is seeking experienced candidates for the position of Project coordinator based in Addis Ababa to manage AICS funded humanitarian project in Borena.  The humanitarian project responds to drought affected communities in Borena through livestock and crop production, risk financing, access to water and cash transfer, asset building and DRM. 

The project coordinator will vertically report to Director of Programs of AeAE country office with functional line to humanitarian program manager and operation Director. The project coordinator will work closely with Area manager, MEAL coordinator, Grant manager, and consortium lead organization, CESVI. The Project Coordinator is responsible for directly coordinating, managing, implementing, and providing technical support, monitoring and evaluation, documentation and reporting for the AICS-funded humanitarian project in Borena. This project is being implemented in consortium with CESVI. The position ensures quality implementation and adherence to technical standards in line with donor policy, procedure and Ayuda en Acción’s regulations and policies.   

Duties and Responsibilities:  

Project management and programme development:  

  • Develop project plans, timelines, and budgets in coordination with project consortium members to ensure successful implementation of the humanitarian project.

  • Ensure area project apply appropriate technical guidelines and follow humanitarian standards and principles, and quality standards related to the project activities.

  • Facilitate and participate in multisectoral assessments and studies that can contribute to high-quality programming. 

  • Constantly monitor the operational environment and assess risks that can affect project implementation.

  • Involve in the development of project concept notes and proposals and identify innovative approaches to addressing priority needs and interests of target populations. 

  • Identify potential advocacy issues that Ayuda en Acción Ethiopia can involve in with respect to project implementations.

  • Identify capacity gaps and propose capacity building interventions within the projects in the portfolio of responsibilities.

  • Properly document and share project processes, achievements, learning, and impacts including the visibility of the Donor.

  • Ensure that interventions under responsibility demonstrate equitable impact to women, men, girls and boys. 

  • Understand and assure the implementation of any system security and safety procedures and requirements to human resources management, protect the completeness, accuracy and integrity of accounting data and information based on AeA policies, procedures, AICS and the law of the land.

 Project monitoring, evaluation, coordination, and reporting 

  • Ensure adequate coordination, monitoring and follow-up on periodic plans as established by the humanitarian project.

  • Collaborate with government agencies, NGOs, government, and other partners to facilitate effective communication, coordination, and cooperation for project implementation

  • Work with the area teams, and support coordination between emergency, durable solutions, resilience building and development programming, promoting the nexus approach to programming.

  • Regularly monitor project activities, budget expenditure and the implementation of projects’ procurement plans, and propose corrective actions in case of deviation to the program directors.   

  • Monitor project implementation to identify lessons learned, best practices, and areas for improvement, and incorporate feedback to adapt project strategies and activities.

  • Establish monitoring and evaluation frameworks to track project progress, assess impact, and ensure compliance with project goals and objectives in collaboration with national office MEAL coordinator.

  • Ensure gender, age and disability disaggregated data collection and that accurate data are used in post-distribution monitoring, project reviews, evaluations, and reporting. 

  • Participate in regional and national coordination meetings including cluster meetings, technical working groups and platforms, Alliance2015 meetings and other relevant coordination fora. 

  • Facilitate joint project reviews with implementing partners, government and community representatives, and other stakeholders.

  • Work with area teams to ensure that accountability mechanisms are put in place, are functional and accessible for diverse groups and individuals.

  • Documenting and producing quality regular progress and periodic reports as per the AeA policies/procedures, AICS regulations, government, provide data/feedback to the Ayuda en Acción knowledge-base and the law of the land.

  •  Duration of contract: One year with possibility of extension 

  • Workday: 40 hours per week

  • Work Centre: Addis Ababa with frequent travel to project area.

  • Remuneration/Salary:  in accordance with Ayuda en Acción's remuneration policy. 

Job Requirements

Knowledge and experience: 

  • Minimum BSc/BA in Agriculture, Economics, Value Chain Management, Rural Development, development studies, Sociology, Disaster Risk Reduction, and other relevant studies. MSc/MA in similar fields is desired. 

  • Proven experience in project management, preferably in the field of resilience building and humanitarian, disaster risk reduction, or community development.

  • Ability and proven experience to document project results, develop analytical and well written, cohesive reports with good communication skills with proper written and spoken English, computer skills that are responsive to the donor's needs.

  • Ability to work and support the program team in Fund raising and management, partnership development and management, networking and alliance building, human, financial and material resources management, Innovations and M&E.

  • Experience of working with range of donors such as USAID/BHA, ECHO, EU, AICS, AECID, EHF and others.

  • A minimum of 6 years of professional experience with at least 4 years working at an international NGO with a focus on food security and livelihoods, emergency and resilience building, disaster risk management and related fields.  

Languages: 

  • Excellent verbal and written English 

Other requirements: 

  •  Adequate Computer and technical skill in data processing

  • Certificates in areas such as humanitarian principles and standards; project cycle management; gender mainstreaming and related areas. 

Skills and competencies: 

  • Familiarity with relevant donors and government priorities, strategies, and regulations. 

  • Knowledge and application of humanitarian standards and principles, monitoring and evaluation principles and tools.

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • A good planner, organizer, and strategic thinker. 

  • High level of commitment to organizational values, human rights and inclusive opportunities for women and girls.

  • Ability to work well under pressure.
