Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Handling customs tax assent of import and exports shipments and handling overall process of custom clearing including;

  •  Reviewing and validating documents necessary for customs declaration and communicating with clients for incomplete documents.

  • Verifying the accuracy and completeness of shipping documents, ensuring all required documents are present and correct and making them ready for assessment

  • Assigning the appropriate tariff for the items. This involves using the Harmonized System (HS) code to determine the correct tariff rate for each item in the shipment.

  •  Ensuring that the required pre-shipment permits are obtained. 

  • Communicating with the client about any post-import permits that may be required. This includes informing the client about any permits that may be required after the shipment has been imported

  • Compute the tax and duties and advise the client for exact tax amount and receive the client’s approval

  •  Asses the documents after receiving approval from the client 

  •  Complete the necessary VDD information on time and liaise with customs for any customs inquires including meeting customs physically if necessary.

  • Preparing an appeal for a tax related disputes with customs on behalf of the client and represent the client before review committee  

  • Provide consultation to clients regarding tax and tariffs and additional taxes 

  • Assist other stuffs in relation to assessment and related work 

  • Keep hard copy documents properly and professionally as well keep scan copy of every documents.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  •  Bachelor's Degree in international trade, customs administration, finance, accounting, or a related field. Relevant certifications or professional qualifications may be advantageous.

  • Strong knowledge of customs regulations, tax laws, and trade agreements, with a focus on customs valuation, classification, and rules of origin.

  • Familiarity with international trade practices, supply chain management, and logistics.

  •  Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex information, evaluate data, and make accurate assessments.

  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills to handle large volumes of customs documentation and maintain accurate records.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with various stakeholders and provide guidance on customs procedures and regulations.

  •  Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

  •  Proficiency in using relevant computer applications and software for data analysis and record-keeping.

Experience:

  • 3-4 years of relevant work experience (the candidate should have experience on relevant position as a customs tax assessor)

  •  In-depth knowledge of HS code tariff classifications, CPC-APC, Customs System, VDD, overall custom clearing processes and procedures (Mandatory)

  • An excellent time management and communication skill with clients and Customs 

  •  Familiarity with Customs Proclamation, regulations, directives, and standards (Mandatory)

  •  Prior customs experience is preferred.

  •  Strong documentation skills.

  •  Proficiency in English.
