Job Description

The Ethiopian Kale Heywet Development Commission (EKHCDC), in partnership with FHI-360, is planning to implement Feed the Future Ethiopia Community Nutrition Activity that aims to improve the nutritional status of women and children through increased and sustained improvements in nine high-impact behaviors that have proven highly effective in reducing malnutrition. These objectives will be realized through enhanced individual and community agency and demand for services, improved access to quality nutrition services at the community level, and improved capacity and coordination among nutrition stakeholders across sectors. 

Position Summary:

The M& E Officer ensures the Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) system of EKHCDC FTFE Community Nutrition (CN) activity which will be implemented in Bench Maji and Keffa zones of South West Ethiopia Region. The MERL officer will be responsible for supporting, supervising, conducting regular data collection, compilation and documentation of implementation progress, lessons and project level data. 

Major duties and responsibilities

  • Monitors data and information quality of Field level data and partner input data.

  • Supports the CN project in project planning, monitoring and reporting.

  • Assists field staff in developing regular data collection format, field supervision, and data collection, analyzing and interpreting data and ensuring forward accountability to the community and learning

  • Assists the project staff in understanding activity/output project level data;

  • Organizes participatory monitoring events along with the CN officers and coordinator, partners and communities

  • Compiles regular field monitoring report including lessons and provide feedback for the program and his/her supervisor

  • Collects and provides information and technical support in the preparation of quarterly or biannual reports and participate in panel monitoring;

  • Participates on project performance review meeting at Woreda level as required and evaluation exercises

  • Organizes field monitoring and evaluation to project sites

  • Ensures the implementation of project MEAL plans/framework.

  • Conduct induction/orientation, training and capacity building of staff involved in accountability and protection

  • Ensures effectiveness and adequacy of systems to track flow of information on inputs utilization and project participation

  • Submits updated data set to the required parties at all levels on quarterly basis or as needed

  • Assists project staff in reviewing and revising project MEAL plan and indicators as required

  • Assists the field program staff in organizing MEAL Related capacity building workshops/trainings to staff and Woreda implementing partners

  • Compile and share project related data among field office staff

Term of Employment: One year with possibility of extension

Job Requirements

Qualification: 

  • Master's or Bachelor' Degree in Monitoring and Evaluation, Nutrition, Health, Project Management, Statistics, Demography, Economics or other related field of study from recognized University;

Experience: 

  • Five years related experience for degree and 3 for masters, in similar nongovernmental development organization; Work experience in USAID funded projects is advantageous.

 Skills Required, Attitudes and Attributes:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, Amharic, and the local languages

  • Knowledge and practical skills in any data management software, excel, PowerPoint and social media

  • Knowledge of database management

  • Good communication and social skills Able to travel to project locations/ outside the town and working under pressure
