JOB SUMMARY

 The GBV Response/prevention Officer will be responsible for providing day to day case management and psychosocial support to vulnerable women, including survivors of GBV and will also oversee Women’s and Girls’ Safe Space (WGSS) activities including psychosocial and recreational activities, information sessions and skills building activities. Additionally, the response/prevention officer will be responsible for overseeing prevention activities (community mobilization and awareness-raising interventions), information dissemination, conducting of mass and mini campaign, implementation of prevention strategy. The response/prevention officer will supervise and community outreach workers.

 Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  •  Identify vulnerable women and girls including survivors of GBV who come or refer to the WGSS for support.

  • Assess the needs of vulnerable women and girls including survivors of GBV and assist them to develop an action point for meeting their needs.

  • Link vulnerable women and girls including survivors of GBV to actors to access supportive services based on their needs, choices, and consent.

  • Carry out requested ethical and safe follow up visits to monitor the progress of vulnerable women and girls including survivors of GBV and provide any support needed.

  • Liaise and advocate with actors to ensure the vulnerable women and girls including survivors of GBV have access to services they need.

  • Work with community structures including women’s association to ensure vulnerable women and girls including survivors of GBV who are seeking services are referred to WGSS for assistance.

  • Work with community structures and partners to develop and maintain appropriate referral pathway to improve assistance for vulnerable women and girls.

  • Participate in GBV related outreach and community mobilization interventions including information sessions and trainings.

  • Supervise WGSS activities including psychosocial, recreational, information sessions and skills building activities for vulnerable women and girls.

  • Maintain good relations with community leaders and partners.

  • Maintain records of activities and produce regular reports including weekly updates or Situational Reports (SitReP), success stories and lessons learnt.

  • Contribute to a positive IMC team environment.

  • Engage community members, women’s association, youth, and children to design participatory strategies and actions to prevent GBV.

  • Mobilize and engage community members, structures and partners in prevention and response including discussions, training etc.

  • Coordinate with partners to integrate GBV prevention activities in their activities.

  • and facilitate community events such as International Women’s Day, 16 Days of Activism to create awareness on the prevention of and response to GBV.

  • Engage community on Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) focal points to establish community-based complaints mechanisms and to raise awareness toward PSEA.

  • Work closely with partners, including UNFPA, and community leaders and focal points, to develop strategies for preventing violence related to firewood collection and maintain good relations with community leaders.

  • Monitor protection concerns for women and girls and share concerns with actors providing services.

  • Participate in regular meetings as requested by the supervisor.

  • Facilitate training and workshops on GBV related issues for health care providers, GBV Staff, education providers, local authorities, women’s groups, IDP leaders, religious leaders, youth groups, NGO workers and any other identified groups.

  • Deal with human resource issues as needed: hire community mobilizers, conduct performance evaluations, and terminate staff as needed. 

Human Resource Management & Capacity Building

  • Assist in the recruitment and training of GBV staff

  • With support from IMC HR, conduct staff performance evaluations of GBV staff in a timely manner.

  • Adhere with IMC PSEA and safeguarding policies

  • Work with HR to ensure accuracy of all GBV program job descriptions for staff and their responsibilities.

  • In collaboration with GBV program manager, design and monitor capacity building strategies for GBV staff.

  • Ensure staff support and debriefing processes are in place, and that staff safety planning is conducted and regularly updated.

  • Develop, implement and promote effective team communication techniques and systems, including regular senior staff meetings.

  • Contribute to a positive IMC team environment

Coordination & Collaboration

  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all relevant stakeholders including CBOs.

  • Collaborate with other IMC sectors and operations personnel to ensure that the program is properly supported and that all project-related operational activities are conducted according to IMC HR, Logistics, Finance and other policies and procedures;

  • In collaboration with the GBV program manager, promote and represent the interests of the GBV program with regards to all relevant stakeholders.

  • And any other activity as requested by the supervisor

Job Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Typically, a bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, sociology, gender studies, Public Health or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

  • Typically, Minimum 3-4 years of experience

  • Trained on IASC GBV Case management and facilitation skill for outreach/awareness raising activities.

  • Experience in psychosocial support, WGSS safe space activities, women empowerment, life skill trainings, counselling and GBV case management.

  • Experience on community mobilization, awareness raising, organizing of campaigns, and implementation of prevention Strategy.

  • Experience working in GBV programming in humanitarian context is a plus.

  • Previous experience living in a hardship environment;
