Job Description

The Ethiopian Women Lawyers’ Association (EWLA) invites competent and qualified candidates to apply for the vacant post of different positions of which the detail requirements are mentioned here below.

Brief Highlight of EWLA: Ethiopian Women Lawyers Association has been established at the federal level in 1995 by Women lawyers and re-registered as Local Organization in accordance with the Civil Society Organization. It has been working for more than 25 years to promote women's social, economic, political and legal rights to help women exercise their constitutional and other rights.

The aim of the association is to promote equal participation of women in all sectors and to prevent sexual violence against women and create a safe environment for women through its three programs: Legal Research and Advocacy, Public Education and Capacity Building, and Free Legal Aid service.  

The association is head quartered in Addis Ababa and has opened its regional offices in seven regions  and one city administration namely Adama, Hawassa, Bahir Dar, Gambella, Asosa, Jigjiiga, Semera regions and city administration of Dire Dawa. In order to make the service accessible to all, the association is working to continue its service in the zones and woredas under its regional and city administration branches and has so far established 55 volunteer committee centers across the country. Besides, it has established a hotline service (7711) which operates in 3 local languages: Amharic, Afan Oromo and Tigrigna

Under the direct supervision of the Program Manager, Project  Coordinator will: Coordinate the strategic reflection and planning of EWLA intervention strategies and programs, especially the projects related interventions; Ensure the efficient and effective coordination and implementation of ongoing and emerging intervention programs and projects; Ensure inclusive business approaches are well implemented in the program; Contribute to EWLA’s in fundraising efforts and all over the program development. The Program Coordinator supports EWLA program teams to ensure that programmatic objectives are met and that EWLA’s activities grow and evolve in a manner consistent with its long-term ambitions. He/she also assists the Leadership team in cultivating strategic partnerships, developing funding opportunities and promoting EWLA’s activities and achievements within the Association.

Duties and responsibilities

  • The project coordinator will have the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Plans and coordinates the programs and programs’ activities.

  • Plans and reviews the work of units, projects officers under his/her department or professional groups/teams engaged in various operations or in the provision of specialist support services to other professional groups.

  • Formulate objectives for all EWLA Programs in collaboration with Program and Projects teams and implement plans to meet stated objectives;

  • Review work plans and monthly program reports, assign work to Program teams, and monitoring project life cycles to ensure milestones are met;

  • Monitor projects’ progress and compile reports to the program manager and stakeholders.

  • Maintain regular, open and effective communication with in-Branch and Head Office staffs;

  • Review, edit and finalize project reports, providing feedback to project leads and communicating with funders to ensure all requirements are met;

  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of grant requests and funding continuation from donors.

  • Ensure that program activity and budget benchmarks are met within their established time frames;

  • Schedules program works, oversees daily operations, coordinates the activities of the programs and set priorities for further implementations;

  • Support management team in monitoring programs, setting learning objectives and assessing outcomes;

  • Assist with resource scheduling and provide support to team members as needed;

  • Prepare financial statements and maintain records pertaining to program activities;

  • Assess project risks and issues and recommend applicable solutions;

  • Create, implement and monitor development programs for staffs;

  • Involve decisions on the means of achieving established goals (ends), coordinates projects, manage resource both human, financial and material resource

  • Recruit and work with experts to develop training structure, curriculum and materials;

  • Build and maintain a solid relationship with expert and skilled volunteers in diverse backgrounds from business to nonprofit sectors;

  • Promote the programs, follow-up to measure and evaluate the impact of the program

  • Chair and facilitate meetings where appropriate and distribute minutes to all project and program team members.

  • Organize, schedule and attend on events

  • Prepare necessary presentation materials for meetings and document and follow up on important actions and decisions.

  • Undertake project tasks as required and provide administrative support as needed.

  • Support field officers in preparing their annual performance development objectives

  • Support planning and coordination of a program and its activities organize workshops and document the training materials

  • Submit periodic activity, status and summary reports to the immediate supervisor

  • Assist the Programs Manager in various activities as needed

  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the Executive Directors from time to time.

Reporting Relationship:

  • The Lead project coordinator is accountable to the program manager and shall report to her.

Duration: One-year contract with possibility of Extension

Job Requirements

Academic Qualification

  • Bachelor or Master's Degree in Law or other relevant field of studies

Required Skills and Experience

  • 5-6 years  of experience
