Job Summary

The purpose of the Life Skills Trainer is to support project activities proposed under PACE in communities project funded by PVH and implemented by CARE Ethiopia. The proposed project will address the low self-confidence and self-efficacy levels of young women through training in life skills, particularly communication, problem-solving and decision-making, time and stress management, Execution Excellence, WASH, and financial literacy. Enhancing the productivity of young women is the centerpiece of CARE's urban and peri-urban strategy for empowering women. The enhancement of productivity includes workforce readiness/improvement, which leads to improved prospects for economic and livelihood improvement, increases the efficiency of labor, and thus maximizes investments and spurs new jobs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Job Responsibility #1: Provide training on the Six modules of the Gap-PACE Curriculum to Women and girls at Boricha woreda. (30%)

  • Deliver 6 PACE training modules to 3000 young women in Sidama, Boricha (Introductory Module, Communication, Problem Solving and Decision Making, Time and Stress Management, Financial Literacy, WASH, Execution Excellence, Closing Module). Both the community and factory contextualized modules will be used interchangeably according to the needs of the targets. The previous contextualized module for the community will be utilized for those individuals who want to pursue self-employment opportunities. The factory-level module will be used for targets who choose the wage employment pathway. A personal development plan and pathway selection exercise by the targeted young women will be conducted by the project before the provision of the training. Ensure that the on-the-ground implementation of PACE activities is informed by the organization’s core programming approaches and principles, particularly gender equality.

  • Ensure that trainees are familiar with the specifics of the life skill training within each module and have practiced utilizing the tools and skills delivered 

  • Share lessons gathered from analyses of the pre-and post-assessments during the actual delivery of the training.

  • Follow up with trained women on the practice of curriculum and improved practices based on training packages provided.

  • Meet regularly with target trainees to discuss the implementation and progress updates, exchange information, discuss challenges, and share tasks accordingly

  • Record and document lessons learned and report to her/his supervisor.

Job Responsibility #2: form Village Saving and Lending Associations (VSLA) with their savings and lending activities for young women selecting the self-employment pathway. (30%)

  • Selection of project targets from different kebeles in collaboration with government partners.

  • Establish VSLA groups. the groups will also be linked with formal financial institutions after completing the whole cycle of the VSLA process.

  • Work with the Woreda-level recruiters and the BRIDGES program to link graduated young women from the P.A.C.E training with the Hawassa Industrial and other nearby parks.

Job Responsibility #3: Strengthen partnership, institutional linkages, and working relationships. (10%)

  • Create an enabling environment within the community and households through CARE’s male engagement strategy (boys, men, and community members).

  • Deliver gender training to Woreda recruiters and key stakeholders to address gender norms and create an enabling environment for potential women workers who want to be employed in the Hawassa Industrial Park and other wage employment opportunities.

Job Responsibility #4: Collecting and registering the data gathered from project targets (10 %)

  • Control the M &E tools designed for the project.

  • Submit quality and accurate data on the system.

  • Timely delivery and register pre and post-data on the M&E system.

  • Submit periodic reports to the immediate supervisor timely.

Job Responsibility #5:  Gender equity and diversity-related responsibilities

Others (10%)

  • Support organizational existing and upcoming Gender Equity and Diversity (GED) initiatives and facilitate information/knowledge sharing regarding the organization’s GED efforts.

  • Promote gender equality within teams, communities, and households.

  • Ensure that reports are disaggregated by sex.

Qualifications (Know-How)

A. Education/Training

Required:

  • Diploma in, Sociology, Psychology, Gender, Teaching, or other related social science fields.  

Desired

  •  Degree in, Sociology, Psychology, Gender, Teaching, or other related social science fields.  

B. Experience

Required:

  • 2-5 years related work experience.

Desired:

  • Gap certified Master trainers.

  • Experience in facilitating training on soft skills.

  • Gender-related experience.

C. Technical Skills

Required:

  • Fluent speaker/native in Sidamigna language

  • Training and communication skills, good human relations

  • Firm belief in teamwork and gender equality.

  • Conceptual understanding of participatory approach and sustainable development.

D. Competencies:

Respect, accountability, courage, excellence, stress tolerance, information monitoring, team building, interpersonal skills, coaching, problem-solving, planning, and organizing. 

Contacts/Key Relationships

The Life Skills Trainer is expected to establish an open relationship with the community, government counterparts, and community-based organizations, as well as with the project staff.

Working Conditions:

The duty station of the Life Skills Trainer will be at Sidama region Boricha woreda.

Duration of Work

The duration of work the life skill trainer will serve the project will be 1 year.
