The Opportunity
This role will ensure that the Women’s Voice and Leadership project (WVL) is implemented with the feminist principles at the forefront of every interventions. This is accomplished through providing direct support and oversight to the implementation and monitoring of the project’s Gender Equality Strategy, in line with Plan’s new global transformative agenda and Country CSP Gender Equality agenda, and Global Affairs Canada’s new Feminist International Assistance Policy.
Funded through the Global Affairs Canada (GAC) WVL strives to bring a notable result in advancing gender equality and empowerment in Ethiopia. WVL recognizes the power and potential of women and girls to promote, protect and uphold their human rights. Over the past four years and half years, the project partnered with more than 90 women organizations (women led and girls and women focused) civil society organizations (CSOs). WVL works to strengthen the leadership and management skills to cultivate a cadre of WOs that can effectively build their organizations capacity to effectively deliver their mission, build the next generation of female leaders and mobilize resource for sustainable impact. The project creates access to flexible funding mechanism to enable the WOs improve the reach and impact of their programing and advocacy. It also aims to create a possibility for coordinated advocacy work carried out as a coalition and connected voice, rather than fragmented efforts. The end goal is for the women’s movement in Ethiopia to be recognized as effective and vibrant, influencing national dialogue on women’s empowerment and gender equality.
The Individual
Qualifications and experience requirements
Education at masters or degree level in fields such as gender studies, Sociology, Psychology, Social Psychology and Social Work
Significant practical experience in the sector (or closely related sectors) and the country of work related to gender or inclusion or related fields such as SRHR, Women empowerment and gender equality influencing and advocacy.
5 + years of experience coordinating gender equality, social inclusion, influencing advocacy and women empowerment project
Full membership of professional body
Has developed professional networks in the sector and in country government
Experience and/or strong professional links with work in this field in other countries
Specialist expertise in either Inclusion or Social and gender norm change
English and other national languages as per regional requirement
Knowledge and understanding of gender equality and gender transformative programming and project management
Knowledge and understand of feminist MEAL system and capturing learning elements to be used in the projects planning and reporting.
Knowledge of the child protection in emergencies sector including protection risks and response interventions.
Knowledge of development and humanitarian issues, trends, challenges and opportunities and implications to child protection.
Proven experience as a trainer and in developing structured and comprehensive curricula and training manuals.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to build relationships with colleagues.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including presentation.
Strong negotiation, influencing and problem-solving skills.
Ability to analyze information and evaluate options including planning skills.
Proficient in computer skills and use of relevant software and other applications.
Understands and puts into practice the responsibilities under Safeguarding and GEI policies and Plan International’s Code of Conduct (CoC), ensuring that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.
Ensures that all staff signed safeguarding policies;
Implement Plan International’s global policies for Safeguarding Children and Young People and Gender Equality and Inclusion are fully embedded in day to day work.
