International Water Management Institute (IWMI)
The International Water Management Institute (IWMI) seeks to recruit a Project Manager who will work under the direct guidance and supervision of the IWMI representative for Ethiopia and East Africa to assist in the implementation of the multiple research for development projects and related activities. His/her duty station will be at the IWMI-East Africa office, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Most of the tasks of the Project Manager shall focus on coordination and implementation support for R4D projects.
The International Water Management Institute (IWMI) is a non-profit international research organization, serving a global mandate to improve the management of water and land for food, livelihoods and nature. IWMI’s headquarter is located in Colombo, Sri Lanka and one of its sub-regional offices is located in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. IWMI is one of the 15 research centers supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).
The specific responsibilities and duties of the Project Coordinator shall be to:
Project planning
Under the guidance of Project Leaders (PLs), develop detailed results-based workplans and budget; that are aligned with the overall projects’ deliverables and donor requirements;
In close coordination with IWMI PMO, prepare project progress monitoring plans;
Prepare procurement plan for projects;
In close coordination with PLs and Finance Officer, prepare quarterly financial requirement projections for R4D projects;
Provide support in preparation of project proposals.
Under the guidance of PLs, prepare project specific annual, semi-annual, and quarter work plans and budgets;
Working closely with PLs and Assistant Program Manager in evaluation of bid documents, and proposals;
Assist PLs in preparing project progress and, where appropriate, other substantive reports aligned with IWMI and donor reporting schedules;
Support technical teams in the preparation of TORs and procurement documents, and review of consultant deliverables, as required;
Under the guidance of the IWMI-EA Representative, assist PLs to monitor budget expenditures and auditing expenses to assure proper use of financial resources;
Lead compilation of contents for annual, semi-annual, and other substantive project reports;
Provide support in preparation of project financial audits;
Work closely with Assistant Program Manager in organization of regular team meetings, compile meeting discussion summaries, and follow up in tracking commitments;
Assist in concept development for and reporting of consultation workshops, training sessions, and other related events;
Create and monitor IWMI-EA project risk register;
Support monitoring, evaluation, and learning processes ensuring organization and retention of project records in compliance with donor and IWMI policies.
Assist in stakeholder outreach and organization of stakeholder events;
Develop and maintain database of IWMI-East Africa stakeholders;
Support preparation of partner agreements;
Assist Pls in ensuring regular coordination and communication flows with key project partners, including governments, basin authorities, and other implementation partners;
Track partner progress, including monitoring deliverables and expenditure progress; conducting financial administration of partner agreements, including disbursements against deliverables, requesting financial reports, and assisting with partner audits where applicable.
Working with the Communications Officer, create project specific communication strategy and liaise as appropriate to ensure implementation;
Lead preparation of contents for communication products;
Working closely with IWMI Communication Officer, review and finalize key project communication products;
Assist the IWMI-EA office head in coordination of R4D projects across projects and teams at the IWMI-EA office;
Maintain IWMI-EA Office R4D projects data on Microsoft Teams;
Collaborate with the Finance Officer, Assistant to Program Manager and Accountant of IWMI-EA Office;
Work closely and, where appropriate, under the guidance of the PMOs office of IWMI HQ;
Carry out other related tasks as requested by the the IWMI-EA Country/Regional Representative
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources Management, Project/Program Management, Water Resources, Hydrology, or other related fields
Project Management certification – desirable
Broad / specialized knowledge of methods, techniques and processes
Seven years professional experience, preferably with international development institutions, research or donor organizations would be an advantage
Skills:
Excellent communication skills and ability in written and spoken English.
Very good track record in managing multiple projects across diverse disciplines;
Highly skilled in preparing PowerPoint and other visual presentation
Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, with ability to interact diplomatically with stakeholders and staff at all levels.
Excellent organizational, administrative and time management skills
Effective analytical, research and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated Project Management experience, including time management, budget control and estimate.

Job Grade: HG 15
Monthly Base Salary: Birr 63,502 (Negotiable depending on salary history of the candidate)
