Education Officer

ZOA’s programme in Ethiopia

ZOA works in several regions in Ethiopia: Gambella Regional State (field office in  Gambella Town), Somali Regional State (field office in Dolo Ado and Melkadida refugee camp), Tigray Regional State (field office in Shire and Mekelle), Oromia Regional State (field office in Harar), Amhara and Addis Ababa. In Ethiopia, ZOA works with Internally Displaced People (IDPs), host populations, persons with disabilities, returnees, and a large population of refugees who fled a combination of violence and drought in Somalia, South Sudan and Eritrea. 

Your challenge 

Overall, the Education Officer will be responsible for assisting the education sector in Tigray Reginal State, Eastern Zone, Adigrat City by meeting the emergency basic needs of conflict-affected populations.  

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Identify the educational needs of students in collaboration with the school community, Woreda Education Experts, and other relevant stakeholders.

  • Assess age, gender, and disability disaggregated data in alignment with the project outcome.

  • Organize and facilitate various capacity-building training programmes for teachers; prepare Information Education and Communication Materials (IEC) Materials

  • Mapping the number and ages of children and forming appropriate playgroups.

  • Manage repairing and maintenance of distracted class rooms and WASH facilities in school

  • Provide students with assistance and direction regarding response services within the school.

  • Actively support the distribution of learning materials, equipment, dignity kits, and other items to students and teachers at the community/school level.

  • Conduct learning baseline and end-line assessments in the targeted schools.

  • Create community awareness in collaboration with stakeholders to support the implementation of project activities within the agreed-upon budget and timeline.

  •  Identify critical program gaps and vulnerabilities, and clarify roles, responsibilities, and accountability to address those gaps effectively.

  • Work with school communities to refer students to other support services and mental health professionals as needed.

  • Assist the MEAL team in ensuring that data is captured correctly and accurately.

  • Support the project manager and area manager in proposal development for Education related projects

  • Prepare events and campaigns for students get back to school

  • Prepare an awareness training sessions for education stakeholders and project staffs on issues of Gender and education in Emergency (GiE)

  • Contribute and ensure the effective management and increased access of quality education service for most schools and  vulnerable students of the intervention areas

  • Prepare and organize events on Gender equality, inclusion, disability and child protection in an emergency context

  • Provide technical assistance, train, follow up, and collaborate with community facilitators

  • Collect best practices, organize data and information, and prepare and maintain records, documents, and control plans for project implementation monitoring.

  • Work closely with the Education cluster partners as well as Woreda and Zonal Education Offices of Eastern Zone, Tigray.  

  • Prepare weekly and monthly implementation work plans.

  • Implement activities in accordance with the agreed project document, budget, and work plan.

  • Prepare and submit an implementation report, as well as weekly, monthly, and other periodic reports, to the appropriate body.

  • Provide regular updates to the Project Manager.

  • Take on any additional responsibilities assigned by his/her supervisor or ZOA.

1.    Compensation

2.     Allowances

  • Transportation allowance:  ETB 5,000  per month.

  • Airtime Allowance: We provide data and airtime to enable you to conduct your work outside of the office.

  • we provide a closed user group so you can speak to your colleagues at no cost.

  • Food Allowance: we provide lunch daily at our offices, ZOA contribute 1,000 ETB per month and staff contribute 750 ETB per month.

  • Severance payment: one month’s salary for an extra service year.

  • Hardship Allowance: If you are working in identified places as a remote and hazardous by the government, you will be entitled 20-40% additional allowances of their basic salary. Therefore, we provide 40% hardship allowance to ZOA employees working in Gambella, Dollo Ado and Shire field offices.

  • Transfer Allowance: We provide transfer allowance of 10,000 ETB If, in case of you permanently shift or transfer to a new programme area.

3.     Paid Leave

We recognize you have priorities outside of work.

  • Our flexible paid time off package gives you the flexibility you need.

    • Annual Leave: 20 days of annual leave in addition to public holidays, and you are also granted one extra day for each extra full year.

    •  Enhanced Maternity Leave provision, 4 months

    • Paternity Leave 5 working days.

    • Rest and Recuperation (R&R): We provide you 5 working days for every consecutive 12 weeks of work R&R leave to unaccompanied staff who work away from their permanent place of residence to spend time with their family. Therefore, ZOA provides R&R leave for its employees who work in the program offices in Somali, Gambela, and Tigray regions.

4.    Insurance

  •  Provident Fund  + Pension: : 32% (22% from ZOA and 10% from You.

     Life insurance  

     Medical Insurance: We also covers your dependents, and your medical expenditures are covered by ZOA up to 100% of each invoice, up to a defined maximum refunded amount of Br 200,000 ETB  per annum.

Job Requirements

Educational Qualification and Experience

BA/BSC or MA/MSC degree in Education (Educational Planning and Management, Inclusive Education, Educational Psychology, Early Childhood Care and Education, Curriculum Instruction and Pedagogy, and so on).

  • At least 5 years for BA/BSC or 3 years for MA/MSC of related work experience in

  • Ensure effective planning, implementation, monitor and control all educational related activities.

  • Language Required: Tigrigna and  English

  • Establish and maintain strategic partnerships and support resource mobilization in cooperation with the management support

  • Ensure provision of top-quality technical and advisory services, and facilitation of knowledge management and knowledge dissemination

Skills:

  • Good computer skills in programs including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • Ability to work under pressure in challenging working and living conditions.

  • Strong verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent spoken and technical writing ability in English, including report writing.

  • Ability to work effectively with other people both as an individual and as a member of a group.

  • The ability to form the attitude for realizing the needs, problems, grievances, and feelings of the subordinate employees, making contact and good relationship with them is known as behavioral skill.
