Overview:

Healthcare System Impact Syndicate Africa (ACSIS) is a non-profit non-governmental organization that focuses on bringing quality health care to the most vulnerable population through innovation, community engagement, behavioral change, and service delivery and system strengthening. We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Part-time Translator fluent in Oromiffa to join our team. This position offers an opportunity to provide high-quality translation services, with a focus on health-related content. While a background in health is a plus, candidates from any background with strong language proficiency and translation skills are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in helping us contextualize and translate health and related content to ensure accurate and culturally appropriate communication.

Responsibilities:

• Translate a wide range of documents, materials, and content from English (or other source languages) into Oromiffa.

• Ensure accurate and culturally appropriate translations that maintain the integrity and tone of the source material.

• Localize content to ensure it resonates with the target audience and reflects their cultural nuances.

• Translate health-related documents, like patient education materials, research articles, and so on.

• Review and proofread translated materials to ensure accuracy, clarity, and adherence to established guidelines.

• Conduct research and consult subject matter experts when necessary to ensure accurate terminology and context.

• Demonstrate a deep understanding of the cultural nuances, sensitivities, and social context relevant to the Oromiffa-speaking community.

• Collaborate with internal teams to ensure alignment and accuracy of translations.

• Communicate effectively with team members to clarify requirements, address questions, and provide updates on translation progress.

Contract Type: Part-time, Fixed-Term Contract

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Skills:

• Fluency in Oromiffa and English with exceptional translation skills.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills in both languages.

• Excellent knowledge of grammar and vocabulary in both languages.

• Ability to translate complex healthcare and medical terminology accurately.

• Cultural sensitivity and a deep understanding of the Oromiffa-speaking community.

• Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality translations.

• Proficiency in using translation tools and software.

• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

• Previous experience in translation, particularly in the healthcare or medical field, is a plus.
