Job Description

The GBV prevention Officer will lead community mobilization and awareness-raising interventions to prevent incidents of GBV.  The GBV prevention Officer will work with GBV response officer and other implementing partners and Government to identify any protection concern(s) for women and girls in targeted woredas through discussions, meetings, outreach campaigns and share with actors for appropriate actions.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSABILITIES

ü  Work with International Medical Corps GBV response team, community structures and partners to identify causes and contributing factors for violence against women and girls in the targeted woreda.

ü  Engage community members and structures including Men, boys, women, and girls to design participatory strategies and actions to prevent GBV in the community.

ü  Mobilize and engage community members, structures and partners in   prevention and response events in the targeted woreda including discussions, trainings, and other means of bridging communities.

ü  Coordinate with partners to integrate GBV prevention activities in their activities.

ü  Facilitate community events such as 16 Days of Activism and International women’s day to create awareness on the prevention of and response to GBV.

ü  Responsible for the overall implementation of GBV mitigation and prevention activity and work closely with community representative and other protection actors to aware the community about GBV in the target woredas.

ü  Develop Terms of Reference (TOR) for all prevention training activities

ü  Provide different training for project staff, other implementing partners, and Government sectors on GBV basic concepts, guiding principles of GBV and referral pathway of GBV.

ü  Organize and facilitates IASC guidelines training for integrating GBV activities, strategies and gender perspectives in humanitarian action for service providers

ü  Provide PSEA training for IMC GBV, and other sectors and implementing partners

ü  Capacitate project community mobilizers through on job training, coaching and mentoring sessions

ü  Involve on hiring of community mobilizers with IMC HR team and program team

ü  Organize and conduct awareness sessions through various means approaching community modalities.

ü  Involve in production of context based IEC/BCC material 

ü  Deliver and submit regular project report and weekly update to senior GBV Officer

ü  Attend in regular GBV meeting at woreda level and represent IMC interests.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

ü  BSc degree in Social Work, Public health, nursing, gender, preferred MS and he/ she must have at least three years’ proven exposure in refugee or humanitarian crises is encouraged and minimum of   two years’ work experience in NGO is required.

ü  A trained community mobilizer in a reputable organization

ü  Background in GBV, Human Rights and/or Protection.

ü  Experience in participatory techniques and community mobilization

ü  Experience in participatory techniques and community mobilization.

ü  Ability to lead, train, supervises, facilitate, and motivate other GBV field workers in their respective tasks in a professional, respectful, and supportive manner.

ü  Positive and professional attitude, able to organize, maintain composure and prioritize work under pressure, work over-time when needed and able to coordinate multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail.

ü  Ability to work as a member of a team essential.

ü  Ability to speak the local languages is mandatory.

ü  Ability to communicate well in English as well as write clear and concise reports in English is plus.

Additional Characteristics

ü  Clear understanding of gender inequality, and issues surrounding violence against women and girls.

ü  Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect for clients always is essential. 

ü  Ability to lead, train, supervise, facilitate, and motivate other GBV staff in their respective tasks in a professional, respectful, and supportive manner.  

ü  Strong planning, organization, and problem-solving skills with ability to work both independently and within a team in a demanding work environment.

ü   Excellent personnel management skills, including diplomacy, tact and negotiating skills.

ü   Integrity, strong work ethic, and ability to consistently meet deadlines under pressure.

ü   Experience collaborating in protection, gender and human rights related activities.
