Job Description

Purpose of Job

To support the French teacher in class by helping students with the French language in all 4 skills, writing, speaking, listening and reading.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. General responsibilities:

  • To be able to speak French (C1 level )

  • To be able to be in school from 7:30am to 3:30pm, staying for meetings and additional work as required by the class teacher or Head of Primary.

  • To contact the Head of Primary by 7.00 am at the latest if you are unable to attend school or will be late.

  • To arrive on time to assist the class teacher to set up the classroom for the day.

  • To assist the class under the guidance of the class teacher, who will set the required practices and procedures for the class.

  • To assist in the planning of the curriculum and its delivery in the classroom, and share areas of expertise with the teacher, and when agreed, with the students.

  • To take responsibility for the delivery of the curriculum in the absence of the class teacher.

  • To attend staff meetings, professional development training INSET days and other meeting and events as requested by the class teacher or Head of Primary.

  • To take a full part in the delivery of the activities program and in the planning and organization of Primary School or whole school events.

2. Specific tasks to be undertaken under the guidance of the class teacher:

  • To support learning activities with individuals or small groups in the class

  • To help prepare teaching materials, resources, audio visual aids and displays.

  • To collect and return resources and maintain class resources in a usable condition and report damaged items to the class teacher.

  • To keep the classroom and its resources in an orderly manner, including clearing up after practical activities (e.g. art, craft)

  • To supervise the students in their personal organization 

  • To write professional goals and targets in September and review them in May.

  • Committed to their own ongoing learning and development

  • Clear communicator who can work alongside stakeholders in many different contexts

  • Ability to reflect on professional practice and determine with other areas of improvement and further development needs

  • Acceptable police checks (or equivalent) from the country of origin and from all other countries in which the applicant has worked and no question regarding suitability to work with children

  • Appropriate references.
