Job Description

The Grantee Finance Manager plays a vital role in managing the financial aspects of grant-funded projects and programs. This position requires strong financial acumen, attention to detail, and the ability to ensure compliance with grant requirements and financial regulations. The Grantee Finance Manager works closely with program managers, grantors, and internal finance teams to track, report, and analyze financial data related to grants, contributing to effective financial management and accountability.

Role & Responsibilities

Financial Management:

  • Oversee the financial aspects of grant-funded projects, ensuring adherence to grant guidelines, budgetary constraints, and financial regulations.

  • Develop and maintain financial systems and processes to track and monitor grant expenditures, including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.

  • Review budget proposals, grant agreements, and funding requests to ensure accuracy, feasibility, and alignment with organizational goals and grant requirements.

  • Monitor grant budgets, expenses, and revenue, identifying discrepancies or potential issues and implementing corrective actions as needed.

  • Prepare and submit timely and accurate financial reports to grantors, adhering to reporting requirements and deadlines.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Collaborate with program managers and stakeholders to develop grant budgets that align with project goals and objectives.

  • Conduct budget analysis and forecasting to identify financial trends, risks, and opportunities for effective resource allocation and cost management.

  • Provide guidance and support to program managers in budget development, monitoring, and revisions throughout the grant lifecycle.

  • Track and report on budget variances, highlighting areas of concern or potential overspending, and recommend appropriate corrective actions.

Compliance and Audit:

  • Ensure compliance with grant regulations, financial policies, and relevant accounting standards.

  • Collaborate with internal audit teams to conduct periodic internal audits of grant-funded projects, identifying areas of non-compliance and implementing corrective measures.

  • Prepare financial documentation and supporting materials for external audits and assist in audit processes as required.

  • Maintain accurate and organized grant financial records, including invoices, receipts, and backup documentation, for audit and reporting purposes.

Grant Management and Reporting:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for grantors regarding financial matters, responding to inquiries, providing requested information, and maintaining positive relationships.

  • Collaborate with program managers to ensure accurate and timely reporting on grant progress, financial performance, and outcomes achieved.

  • Assist in the preparation of grant proposals, budgets, and financial narratives for new funding opportunities.

  • Coordinate with program managers and finance teams to ensure proper coding, tracking, and reporting of grant-related transactions in the financial systems.

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field (preferred).

  • Proven experience in financial management, grant accounting, or a similar role.

  • Strong understanding of financial principles, budgeting, and accounting practices.

  • Knowledge of grant regulations, compliance requirements, and reporting standards.

  • Proficiency in financial software and tools, such as Excel, accounting software, and grant management systems.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present financial information clearly and effectively.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills to meet deadlines and manage multiple grants simultaneously.

  • Knowledge of nonprofit or grant-funded organizations is a plus.
