About the Position:

The CMAM Nurse will be responsible for ensuring that the CMAM protocol is implemented to run the Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) programme independently in the nutrition programme.

Key Duties & Tasks:

Ø  Ensure quality standards are maintained across all programmes including SC, OTP,TSFP,IYCF, C-MAMI, BSFP , community outreach and dietary diversification;

Ø  Undertake clinical and physical examination of all children referred to the community management of acute malnutrition  (CMAM) programme on day to day basis.

Ø  Follow CMAM medical protocols in the distribution of routine or supplemental drugs to OTP and SC children.

Ø  Ensure the medical protocols are implemented in line with the Federal Minster of Health Guideline of treatment of SAM.

Ø  Conduct Weekly / biweekly/monthly MUAC or Twostep screening in collaboration with community outreach and other CMAM Nurses.

Ø  Ensure that all the nutrition phases in the inpatient protocols are followed and implemented complying with the protocol. 

Ø  In collaboration with Refugee CMAM Nurses ensures all necessary supplies (food and non-food) are requested on time.

Ø  Ensure that there is high standard of hygiene sanitation in the SC/OTP/TSFP/ IYCF/ waiting room/screening room and Blanket Supplementary feeding room.

Ø  Undertake regular health and nutrition education sessions in collaboration with Community outreach and CMAM nurses in OTP/TSFP/BSFP/IYCF and SC.  Give due emphasis for the children admitted in SC.

Ø  Ensure that children are referred to TSFP/OTP or SC programme based on the national protocol/ international protocols considering all the criteria for referral.

Ø  Work closely and understand the C-MAMI programme:

Ø  Coordinate absentee, defaulter, static weight, loss of weight and follow-up with community outreach supervisor in the programme so that they could be traced and followed up.

Ø   Assist in the setting up and smooth operation of the stabilization centers and outpatient therapeutic program in the nutrition programmes.

Ø  Work with community outreach workers to improve their ability to recognize cause and signs of malnutrition, provide appropriate education to target groups and community to help mitigate MN and refer individuals as appropriate.

Ø  Work in collaboration with IYCF Nurse with outreach and center based IYCF activities.

Ø   Use proper formats for item distribution and submit the documents (BDRS) on time.

Ø   Ensure daily tally sheets are done and all the program documents (registration book, tally sheets and reports) are in the appropriate place

Ø  Submit a monthly and weekly statistical report to the Senior CMAM Program Officer (SCPO) on time.

Ø  Submit a monthly narrative report in line with GE reporting template to the Senior CMAM Program Officer (SCPO) on time.

Capacity Building

Ø  Plan and conduct training and refresher training for Registrar/Measurer/Incentive/COAs when possible in the management of severe acute malnutrition.

Ø  Supervise Registrar/Measurer/Incentive along with SCPO working in the Stabilization Centre (SC) and outpatient therapeutic program.

Ø   In consultation with SCPO facilitate sharing of lessons learned to other partners/stakeholders.

Ø  Provide effective coaching and mentoring guidance to the Registrar/Measurer so that they can measure and register smoothly.

Ø  Investigate the causes of non-responding and refer children to Stabilization Centre (SC) in collaboration with community outreach officer.

Ø   Ensure routine and supplemental drugs are requested on time and distributed to intended targeted group.

Ø  Facilitate information and lessons sharing with other partners and agencies at camp level.

Ø  Ensure proper utilization of resources and accountability to the programme.

Ø  Liaise with the community Volunteers to ensure comprehensive community outreach and mobilisation, health education and treatment are undertaken per the guidelines.

Ø  Check that all messages to carers, community groups, leaders and authorities are consistent and fully understood.

Ø  Provide technical assistance to the stake holders/partners in planning of training for Incentives/COAs and other key figures in the community (Traditional healers, religious leaders, influential groups…)

Ø  Perform/Assist   in any other tasks as required by the Senior CMAM Program Officer (SCPO)

Ø  Document and file all relevant information of the targeted group according to Donor’s requirement and keep those documents in a very accessible place

Ø  Respect the dignity of the target group, careers and members of the community

Ø  Liaise with the community Volunteers to ensure comprehensive community outreach and mobilization,

Other duties

Ø  Perform/Assist   in any other tasks as required by the Senior CMAM Program Officer (SCPO)

Ø  Document and file all relevant information of the targeted group according to Donor’s requirement and keep those documents in a very accessible place

Ø  Respect the dignity of the target group, careers and members of the community

Ø   Liaise with the community Volunteers to ensure comprehensive community outreach and mobilization, health

Ø   Education and treatment are undertaken per the guidelines.

Ø  Check that all messages to careers, community  groups, leaders and authorities are consistent and fully understood.

Requirements: (Educational Qualification and Experience)

Ø  BSc Degree or Diploma in Nursing with a minimum of two year of experience for Bsc holder and four years’ experience for Diploma holder in therapeutic and supplemental feeding preferably in CMAM/CTC preferably in NGO environment

Qualifications: Key qualities, Skills, and Competences:

Ø  Strong organizational skills and experience with teamwork

Ø  Experience in training key community members, plus building the capacity of local staff.

Ø  Excellent communication skills and a willingness to be respectful, kind, sensitive and

            empathise with all beneficiaries and their careers.

Ø  Willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult and frustrating working conditions.

Ø   Demonstrable ability at report writing.

Ø  Ability to work flexibly including weekends

Ø   Commitment to and understanding of GOALs aims, values and principles

Ø  Fluency in written and spoken English and local languages

Ø  Accountability & responsiveness within areas of responsibilities
