Job Description
JSI is a US-based public health nonprofit organization dedicated to providing high-quality technical and managerial assistance programs throughout the world. In Ethiopia, JSI has been working to improve health outcomes for more than 25 years, implementing more than 60 projects and working in every region. JSI has historically managed a large portfolio of projects focusing on the quality, and equity in access of, RMNCAH services, primary health care (PHC) including community health program, digital health, health information systems (HIS), supply chain management, public health emergency responses, and social and behavior change.
Activity Overview
USAID Quality Healthcare Activity (QHA) aims at improving health outcomes through improved readiness of health facilities to deliver quality reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health (RMNCAH) services, increased management and accountability for quality service delivery, and restoration of services in health facilities in conflict-affected areas. QHA's strategies and implementation approaches will help Ethiopia's government build responsive, resilient, and sustainable public and private healthcare systems. QHA will cover urban and peri-urban primary health care units (PHCU) and referral health facilities in select regions and woredas. The Activity, through funding support from USAID, will be implemented by JSI in collaboration with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), MSI Reproductive Choices (MSI), Project HOPE, and Network of Ethiopian Women's Associations (NEWA) for five years (May 01, 2023 - April 30, 2028)
Role Summary
The Data Analyst works with both the research and LME team to design relevant data collection and analysis plan to support the LME team and research advisor in both qualitative and quantitative research. S/he applies various data analysis and presentation techniques to ensure usability of the information generated to improve programming.
· Take the lead in analyzing and synthesizing qualitative and quantitative data and visualizing the same to communicate to different audiences.
· Support in data collection, regular data review, and analysis of monitoring indicators and adaptive learning sessions. Demonstrate a data and result-curious mindset to continuously develop new or improve existing analytics to enhance data use and management for the Activity’s team and partners.
· Provide support to programming and work planning processes by:
o Gathering, interpreting, and synthesizing relevant data.
o Investigating problems, finding root causes, and developing solutions
o Generating reports for internal and external partners
o Exploring and adapting visuals and analytics
· Support documentation of processes, success stories, experiences, and sharing of lessons learned within the Activity and ensure their dissemination.
· Support LME with a developmental evaluation approach to test and develop innovative ideas.
· Prepare and review various research methodologies and develop data analysis plan.
· Participate in research activities as a co-investigator.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
· Advanced degree in statistics, epidemiology, or a related field is required.
· At least five years’ work experience, with a minimum of two years working in health system strengthening.
· Quantitative and analytical skills, including experience with mining, analysis, interpretation and presentation of data. Experience in using statistical software such as SPSS, STATA, R is highly desirable.
· Data visualization skills using tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Advanced Excel is highly desirable.
· Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, and organizational skills
· Ability to coordinate various tasks, work independently and manage work plan.
· Ability to work as part of a diverse and dynamic team.
· Ability to work comfortably in the MS Office package, Google suite, and other software and technology tools.
· Experience in implementation research with knowledge and skills in development and review of research protocol is highly desirable.
· Knowledge and experience working with monitoring, learning and evaluation highly desirable.
· Experience in working with mobile health (mHealth) tools such as ODK, Survey CTO is an added advantage.
· Speaking of more than one local language is a plus.
