Job Description
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION
• Responsible for all meals and all aspects of the kitchens and pantries, which include menu creation, preparation, shopping, stocking, organizing, cleaning, and table management.
• Responsible for food safety, quality, and appearance.
• Creates and maintains a record of recipes and meals served.
• Supervises, leads, mentors, and inspires the culinary team, which include cook/culinary staff and temporary kitchen assistants.
• Monitors and maintains food and kitchen supplies.
• Ensures minimal food waste.
• Ensures that all food safety guidelines are followed.
• In close collaboration with the House Manager, manages timelines and the look and feel of events from planning to clean-up.
• Responsible for all personal meal service from planning to service, to clean up.
• Responsible for staff meals as appropriate.
• Assists Residence Manager with financial accounting for official events and coordinates with the Office Management Specialist (OMS) and COM to ensure proper reimbursements.
• Assists all other staff, including Residence Manager and housekeeping staff as needed.
• Responsible for administering First Aid as needed.
• Responsible for remembering food and kitchen organization preferences.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Able to run fast-paced restaurant/catering- style kitchen. Superior knowledge of international cooking techniques, ingredients, and plating/presentation.
Kitchen organization. Knowledge of food safety. Knowledge of nutrition and food combinations.
Experience working independently and as a team and taking responsibility for outcomes. Experience teaching, mentoring and inspiring others in the household. Can demonstrate clear thinking, excellent decision making, collaborating, communicating, and problem-solving under pressure. Experience using good judgment.
Experience reporting problems and anomalies.
Must be literate and numerate. Proficient in technology– perform searches, use email, create, and save documents.
Note: A non-citizen of the host country applicant (including a U.S. citizen or a third-country national) who is locally resident must have the required work/resident permit to be eligible for consideration.
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Fixed term contract until the employer permanently departs post, until one-month prior notice is provided by either the employer or the employee, a one-month base salary payment in lieu of one-month prior notice is provided by the employer to the employee, or the employee is dismissed for cause.
Probationary Period – Six weeks.
EMPLOYER: The U.S. Embassy Chief of Mission (COM); not the U.S. Embassy, not the U.S. government. As a personal employee of the COM, the terms and conditions of U.S. government employees do not apply to this position.
OPENING DATE: October 15, 2023
CLOSING DATE: October 29, 2023
WORK HOURS: Full-time (40 hours/week). Availability for evening and weekend work is required.
