Job Description

To provide technical expertise for quality Nutrition Program design and implementation for vulnerable refugee and host populations in MTI operations in Ethiopia 

 JOB RESPONSIBILITIES   

  • Ensure that cross cutting protection issues are mainstreamed across Nutrition Programs.

  • Lead or conduct assessments for informed project planning and implementation.  

  • Review PMT (Project management tools) including pipelines

  • Identify and reinforce existing support mechanisms and work closely with local counterparts to ensure community buy-in and cultural appropriateness of activities

  • Work with teams and communities to develop appropriate prevention and awareness-raising/behavior change strategies

  • Conduct periodic visits to implementation sites to understand the reality, provide on-site advise /support and come up with recommendations for program quality improvement

  • Support and guide the nutrition team to capture /document program lessons at different levels

  • Lead and/or contribute to regular nutrition sector updates, reports, capacity statements, and sector representative meetings/trainings. 

  • Ensure the emergency nutrition program properly linked with the other sectors and other agencies implement.

  • Accompany and facilitate donor and or tsakeholder visits and provide relevant background materials.

  • Maintain flexibility to take on added responsibility as and when needed

  • Ensure maximum visibility of MTI with a positive image, actively participate in Nutrition working groups and contribute to interagency initiatives, also promoting MTI as a leader agency in Nutrition

  • In collaboration with the HR department, ensure support to recruitment and selection of nutrition-related staff and for all matters concerning human resources for the nutrition unit.

  • Plan for direct program budgets, closely monitor program budgetary expenditures, follow pipeline updates from finance team, advice and guide the nutrition team as well as lead in budget revisions/realignment as may be required.

Logistics management 

  • ·Follow the logistic issues in relation to nutrition including preparing procurement plans, raising purchase orders and following the status of procurement and finally assuring the proper utilization of procured nutrition items Support the field team on the procurement process and ensure the requested materials reached to the field site timely in close collaboration with the concerned stakeholder.  

M&E

  • Monitor the day-to-day implementation of nutrition program activities as per the detail implementation plan and project agreement with the donor or other implementation partners.

 Security

  • Ensure compliance with security protocols and policies Consider security implications of all program activities, reviewing all new initiatives with national/ field staff and community leaders and incentive workers or volunteer

Team; Ethiopia Response 

Reports to Position: Direct: Nutrition Coordinator 

Technical: Nutrition Coordinator 

Location:  Addis Office, with frequent travel (up to 60%) to project sites including Tigray Region. 

Work days and number of scheduled hour per week: Monday-Friday, 40-48 hours/week, occasional weekends and public holidays 

Position type: Regular Employee 

Travel: Frequent travel to project locations (subject to necessary approvals)

Job Requirements

EDUCATION, LICENSES, & CERTIFICATIONS  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field is required; Master’s Degree in Nutrition is an added advantage.  

  • Licenses in Human Nutrition is an added advantage. 

  • Trainer certification in CMAM, IYCF-E, IMAM is an added advantage  

EXPERIENCE  

  • Minimum 5 years of experience on Nutrition Program implementation, inclusive of field-based experience in Emergency Nutrition Program is required. 

  • Experience in designing and implementing of Nutrition programs at the country office level  is an added advantage. 

  • Experience working with BHA, UNHCR, WFP,UNICEF and other INGOs is an added advantage.  

  • Experience in Food security activities including multi-purpose cash is and added advantage. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES  

KNOWLEDGE 

  • Extensive knowledge of nutrition principles, management of acute malnutrition and conducting nutrition surveys and assessments 

  • Skilled in conducting trainings and providing mentorship to develop a high functioning team 

  • Skilled in using HIS/HMIS database and making data-driven decisions 

  • ABILITIES 

  • Ability to be flexible and manage stress, especially in situations which require a high degree of diplomacy 

  • Ability to support MTI Calling and adhere to the MTI Code of Conduct 

This position requires frequent travel to health facilities located in remote areas with very basic living conditions. 

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.  

The employee may be required to travel to remote areas of the world where there are potential health hazards and risks, limited hygiene facilities, extreme hot or cold weather, and very basic living conditions.
