Job Description
The transformation has resulted in changes in skills requirements, roles, and a number of roles required in the new operating model. The roles in the new operating model will be restricted to employees in the selection pool in the first instance. Selection for any jobs that remain unfilled following the agreed selection process will be conducted in line with the Global Recruitment policy.
Role Purpose
The British Council is looking to hire a Marketing and Communications Consultant who will lead the content development and management of communications of its operations in Ethiopia. The Consultant is expected to ensure a visible presence across diverse platforms, effectively communicate the organization's works, support documentation and measurement of media activities, and generate reports to share knowledge with stakeholders. The Consultant will work within the framework of the Country Communications strategy and action plan, collaborating closely with the Regional Senior Marketing Manager.
Main Accountabilities
Internal & External Marketing, and Communications
Assist in planning and implementing different tactical approaches to increase the visibility of the British Council in Ethiopia based on the Marcomms action plan.
Identify opportunities to promote the British Council in Ethiopia through events, meetings, and other face-to-face engagements.
Help produce branded collaterals and promotional materials by coordinating with production houses and agencies.
Website and Social Media Management
Support in ensuring that the British Council Ethiopia website content is comprehensive, up-to-date, and relevant.
Create content for social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, for the project's official accounts.
Media Handling and Event Management
Develop a media placement strategy and implement it, ensuring consistent coverage of the British Council's operations in Ethiopia and beyond through national media networks.
Coordinate media personnel during events and act as the key contact for local media.
Support the planning and delivery of high-level annual events from a Marcomms perspective.
Content Planning and Development
Work with the regional senior marketing manager and project teams to agree on messages, audiences, and distribution channels.
Brand Management
Ensure brand compliance for the country's operation, including marketing collaterals, email signatures, designs, etc.
Metrics
Record and measure all marketing and communications activities according to pre-defined KPIs and metrics.
Generate a monthly report on media engagement, covering both traditional and new media channels.
Capacity Development
Provide assistance to staff using a supportive and collaborative approach.
Qualifications
Relevant Degree e.g. Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or Equivalent level of experience.
Role Specific knowledge and experience
Significant experience in managing communications within a large and complex organization or agency
Demonstrable experience in successfully providing expert advice and guidance on internal and external communications
Experience in managing and mitigating communications risks and issues
Proven record of editorial experience (i.e. proofreading, translation, knowledge of different content types, etc.)
Demonstrable creative approach to developing, implementing and evaluating communication activities
Background in youth marketing
Demonstrable experience working with agencies/PR, events, design, marketing and communications
Practical experience in using social media to extend the reach of an organization including through campaigns;
Strong track in marketing and communications monitoring and reporting
Strong relationships with key media outlets in Ethiopia
Experience commissioning and placing compelling short-form video
Desirable
Experience in a global organization
Project management skills

Consultancy Duration – 1 year
Consultancy Fees – ETB 50,000.00
Location – Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Language requirements: English and Amharic are mandatory. Proficiency in other local and international languages will be an advantage.
Requirements – All applicants should have a pre-existing legal status to live and work in Uganda. The British Council will not facilitate/sponsor visa applications and work permits.
