Job Description

ROLE PURPOSE

 The Permanent Sub Educational Assistant under the guidance of the divisional office, is responsible for the well-being and safety of the students and keeping the classroom running smoothly when the regular teacher or EA can't be there. The assistant will supervise students during assigned times across the ICS campus and provide administrative support.

SPECIFIC ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 ●      To provide students with meaningful and appropriate learning in accordance with the lesson plans provided.

●      Present content prepared by full-time educators, helping students through tasks and to reinforce ideas and concepts or to help with make-up work for students.

●      Support the main teacher in student learning when covering for EA that is absent.

●      To provide release time for teachers during advisory or community time as needed.

●      To deliver learning activities to individuals and groups of students, and on occasion to the whole class in the absence of the main teacher  with minimal interruption and behavioral expectations. The learning could be delivered in the classroom, in the laboratory, in the gym  and on the field according to the assignment given.

●      To support learning as required and agreed by the assigned supervisor and follow supervisor’s expectations with consistent monitoring of  students’ behavior.

●      To assists the school administration in maintaining order within the school building including during recess or lunch breaks and at different sports events etc

●      To write incident reports for injuries or discipline issues immediately following incidents.

●      To efficiently prepare, maintain and use appropriate classroom and/or Lab teaching materials and equipment, including organizing the use of audio/visual and ICT equipment, equipment and chemicals are prepared for practical lessons, bearing in mind the efficient usage of                 school resources.

●      To maintain familiarity with the relevant requirements of the curriculum to assist with the effective teaching concept and skills.

●      To establish productive working relationships with students, taking on role model by presenting a positive personal image.

●      To assist in collecting learning and behavior data of students.

●      To assist with preparation for school visits and the supervision of students on such visits, as guided by the assigned supervisor.

●      To work as a proctor to oversee testing rooms on testing dates with or without main teacher.

●      To assist in the general efficient operation of the school, including providing cover for other support staff as necessary

●      During different events where ICS is the host, assist with administrative support.

●      Organizes events by coordinating with different departments.

●      To receive visitors for Principal and Assistant Principal; places and screens telephone calls and answers queries with discretion when assigned.

●      To attend staff meetings, participate in own performance management evaluation session and undertake training and development activities as availed by the school.

●      To orient and mentor new EAs or colleagues.

●      To undertake tasks of a similar nature and level, as directed by supervisor.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

 ●       BA/ BSC degree, preferably master’s degree in education/sciences/biology, chemistry.

 EXPERIENCE

●         Eight years working in teaching and learning system

●        Classroom experience required.

 KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

 ●        Ability to modify and change lessons and activities per the guidance given.

●        Ability to interpret lesson plans while managing students in a classroom.

●        Ability to find solutions to the possible challenges of working in an environment that changes regularly.

●        Ability to manage diverse schedules.

●        Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

●        Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.

●        Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures and make suggestions to support student learning.

●        Student supervision skills.

●        Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for students.

●        General understanding in preparing instructional aids and plans.

●        Ability to be positive and assertive when necessary.

●        Ability to build good relationships with children, teachers and parents.

●        Ability to maintain confidentiality always in respect of school-related matters and to prevent disclosure of confidential or sensitive       information.
