Job Description

Chemonics International, Inc., is a US-based international development consulting company, operating in over 95 countries, that is implementing the USAID funded Urban Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) project in Ethiopia.  

Chemonics seeks a Program Assistant for the USAID Urban Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Activity. The purpose of this Activity will be to support accelerated access to safe, adequate, inclusive, and resilient WASH services targeting urban and peri-urban areas. The Activity will work to achieve this through four complementary objectives: 1) Enable and professionalize WASH service providers; 2) Foster markets for pro-poor and inclusive WASH services; 3) Strengthen WASH planning, budgeting, and service delivery oversight; and 4) Strengthen accountability among urban WASH sector actors.  

The Program Assistant will pro-actively support WASH program implementation by coordinating and compiling timely, quality reports, documenting results, liaising with partners, and organizing key events. The Program Assistant will enthusiastically ensure a smooth and timely flow of work.  Responsibilities:  

  • Coordinate periodic program reporting and work planning inputs from the field team.

  • Work across departments to produce monthly update reports, disseminate lessons learned to implementing partners and the consortium; synthesize and package information to help the Regional Team Director and leadership prepare for meetings and presentations.

  • Follow up with the team to ensure that Urban WASH activities are implemented according to originally set time frames using MS Teams and other program management tools.

  • Coordinate lessons learned from monitoring and evaluation of WASH programs and support sharing of best practices in collaboration with consortium partners.

  • Identify, research and develop stories, articles, blogs and news, as requested and coordinate with the communications officer for program knowledge sharing.

  • Liaise with GoE partners (national and regional level), as appropriate, to maintain productive, positive working relationships, process agreements, and ensure quality reports are submitted on time.

  • Plan and execute key events: regular meetings, trainings and workshops, documentation and reporting and ensure follow up on action points by respective team members; and

  • Work and liaise across various departments to provide the required support for field teams and achievement of deliverables. 

Job Requirements

Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in literature, journalism, social sciences, or related field 

  • 2 years of relevant work experience

  • Strong computer and written/verbal communication skills, including with Microsoft Suite

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Attention to detail and quick learner.

  • Collaborative attitude and ability to achieve team results.

  • Experience working in Ethiopia required. Ethiopian nationals are encouraged to apply.   

  • Fluency in English with excellent oral and written communication skills required, proficiency in Amharic highly preferred.

  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity.
