Job Description
John Snow, Inc. (JSI Research and Training Inc) was founded in 1978. JSI is a global organization dedicated to improving the health of individuals and communities. JSI worked in 106 countries and has a large footprint in Ethiopia. The first JSI project in Ethiopia started in 1994. Currently Improve Primary Health Care Service Delivery (IPHCSD) and Electronic Community Health Information System(eCHIS) are among JSI’s several projects in Ethiopia.
Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) funded IPHCSD is being implemented in partnership with Amref Health Africa in eight regions of Ethiopia: Amhara; Oromia; Sidama; Southern Nations, Nationalities, and People’s (SNNP); Southwest Ethiopia Peoples; Afar; Somali, and Gambella. These regions were selected to represent agrarian, pastoralist, and agro-pastoral contexts.
eCHIS project, with the support from Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, has been implemented in Amhara, Oromia, SNNP and Sidama regions since December 2020.
Thus, JSI/IPHCSD/eCHIS is seeking to engage a communication intern with design skill and interested in digital media.
The intern will provide technical support in the field of Public Relations (PR) and Communications regarding the following tasks:
• Support the program advocacy and communications advisor in the communications activities and assist in communicating internal and external target audiences
• Support communication activities in terms of planning and implementation
• Coordinating and, where applicable, monitoring communications activities (including quality of content and form, quantity and effectiveness).
• Participating in programs to provide communication support
• Support programs/projects on their communications activities (e.g. on design, producing publications and planning events)
• Supports quality assurance checks of communication products submitted by projects/programs (e.g., for publications, press release etc)
• Organizing content collection, development, and distribution of success stories from the programs in different internal and external platforms including digital platforms.
• The major focus of this internship will be on the planning and organizing the production of communication materials. (e.g. project brief, fact sheets, promotional material, PowerPoint presentations, newsletter, info sheets etc.)
• Assist on the development of the social media content collection with programs
• Assist with event organization
Required educational qualifications, professional experience and competency
We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative, and open-minded team player with great interpersonal skills, ability to handle multiple tasks and work in intercultural environment. The candidate should be organized, structured and have a strong attention to detail. Technical requirements include:
• University degree in Communications, Journalism or a related field (those currently doing their MA in the above-mentioned fields can also apply).
• Fresh graduate in one of the respective fields
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills and a confident journalistic style
• Editorial exposure in writing articles and press releases (work samples may be requested)
• Experience in internal communications (dissemination of information and promoting dialogue within an organization)
• Experience in media production, possibly including publishing or graphic design software such as Adobe InDesign or Adobe Photoshop.
• Experience with video editing is an asset
• Excellent knowledge of English is an advantage
