Job Title: Intern, Youth Engagement 
Reports to: AYSRH Program Officer
Project: RBA for enhancing SRHR project
Work Location: Addis Ababa

EngenderHealth seeks applications from fresh graduates to join EngenderHealth as Youth Engagement Intern for its SIDA funded “A Rights Based Approach for Enhancing SRHR” project at the duty station of Addis Ababa.
JOB SUMMARYYouth Engagement Intern under the supervision of the AYSRH Program Officer will be responsible for ensuring Meaningful Youth Participation across EngenderHealth supported program/projects particularly for “A Rights Based Approach for Enhancing SRHR and responding to GBV” project. They will be helping to develop and deliver a range of opportunities and activities to build and engage networks of young people across the project intervention regions. They will develop positive relationships with youth-led organizations and young people across the intervention regions, so that our work is driven by the voices of young people, and you will create innovative ways for young people to engage in collective action.
Meaningful Engagement of young people in the design, implementation and Monitoring and Evaluation of the project and empowering them to become peer educators and advocates for SRHR is the key responsibility of the Youth Engagement Intern. They will develop a guide and embed effective approaches to ensure there are opportunities for the young people they work with to get their voices heard at a local, national, and international level and be at the forefront of decision making with policy makers. Furthermore, they will work to develop and maintain a digital youth hub where all young people can voice their opinions, exercise their rights freely, and engage in educational activities via fun-themed events like carnivals, and youth festivals.
Youth Engagement Intern is expected to be a model/champion on SRHR, and Gender Equity demonstrating passion about changing the outcomes for young people and ensuring they are at the center of our work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Design approach to support meaningful participation of young people in the project by ensuring inclusivity and diversity of young people, including lived experience of young people, equal representation from boys, girls, and those from the marginalized or remote communities in the implementation regions and across Ethiopia.

  • Facilitate young people to build their skills and confidence so that young people’s participation and contribution are maximized and that they can express their views.

  • Be a champion for MYP (Meaningful Youth Participation), adopting approaches to the work of EngenderHealth and the project.

  • Work with AYSRH officer to promote opportunities and involvement through a range of Digital Medias and create opportunities for young people to share their stories.

  • Develop strong relationships through regular engagement with organizations and young people in line with EngenderHealth and project’s priorities.

  • Work closely with the project team to ensure that young people’s views, experiences, and work is communicated clearly to wider stakeholders and to inform the evolution of the campaign.

  • Use agreed digital platforms for digital hub to build communities and connect networks across the regions and enable young people to voice their opinions, exercise their rights freely, and engage in educational activities via fun-themed events like carnivals, and youth festivals.

  • Ensure that all activity and engagement with young people complies with EngenderHealth’s safeguarding policies and procedures.

  • Manage the scheduling of activity across project workstreams, ensuring project management processes are in place and reporting progress to internal and external stakeholders via meetings, written reports, and presentations.

  • Document lessons, and best practices regarding the project’s Meaningful Youth Participation (MYP) approach and experience.

  • Report progress to internal and external stakeholders via meetings, written reports, and presentations.

  • Undertake any other duties and reasonable requests that are in keeping with the nature of this post.

Job Requirements

The candidate must have the following minimum set of qualifications:

  • Fresh graduate of any field with zero-year experience or a young person with the experience of working on Meaningful Youth Participation (MYP) / building communities of young people or been a member of a Youth Advisory council.

  • Fresh graduate (Zero years’ experience)

PREFERRED SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND FUNCTIONS:

  • Fluency in English language proficiency strongly preferred. Ability to travel up to intervention regions as deemed necessary.
