Job Description

 Purpose of the Job:

To enable the smooth running of logistics and procurement operations by leading the development of logistics and procurement policy, procedure and strategy, providing strategic direction and governance in the procurement,  warehouses and shipment activities.

Main Duties and responsibilities:

  • Ensure the right products are procured and delivered to the right location on time, to the quality required and in the most cost-effective way.

  • Oversee the procurement, distribution, and transportation of goods from the supplier to the warehouse and from warehouse to the consumer preferred location.

  • Plan and oversee the whole process of procurement, warehouse operation and shipment.

  • Develop a budget for the department and coordinate allocation of necessary resources to the units.

  • Lead the performance review and assessment of each unit based on standard service level agreements and logistics performance metrics.

  • Lead the design of an integrated logistics strategy in alignment with the company strategic direction.

  • Direct and oversee operations within the organization's logistics and procurement function.

  • Oversee the application of service standard and service delivery charter in the entire logistics and shipment management services.

  • Oversee the logistics and procurement overall plans and procedures to ensure that internal and client needs are met.

  • Oversee the overall operation of the department within the broader function.

  • Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.

  • Ensure that all aspects of a logistics team, such as shipping, warehousing and procurement, are working together to fill orders and deliver materials on a timely basis.

  • Review all processes and systems and design and implement new functional plans and procedures.

  • Identify and evaluate suppliers and develop strategies for addressing logistical barriers.

  • Approve updated logistics and procurement practices in accordance with new or changing policies, standards, regulations.

  • Oversee the proper management of alliances and partners within integrated logistics channels.

  • Examine priorities and oversee logistics and procurement operations by handling problems effectively and by modifying plans and actions in logistics management.

  • Monitor the use of materials and resources and ensure quality record keeping.

  • Prepare the Function’s work plans and monitor their execution.

  • Develop, approve and monitor the Function’s budgets.

  • Identify human resources requirements of the Function and develop a plan for meeting the requirements.

  • Develop policies and procedures for the Function and lead in their implementation and continuous review.

  • Review, approve and submit Function reports to relevant organs.

  • Support the development of subordinates through periodic performance evaluations, coaching, mentoring, ongoing performance dialogue and feedback. 

  • Oversee the systematic identification of skill and competency requirements for the Function.

  • Evaluate the periodic performance of his/her subordinates.

  • Manage disciplinary concerns of the Function’s staff.

  • Represent the Company in external relationships related with the Function.

  • Take part in the group decision making process by forming part of different groups/committees.

Job Requirements

Qualification and Experience:

·   Master’s degree Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Business Management or related fields with eight (8) years of demonstrated experience out of which four (4) years in a managerial position              

OR

Bachelor’s degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Business Management or related fields with ten (10) years of demonstrated experience out of which five (5) years in a managerial position.
