Job Description

Main purpose of the job:

  • The R&D project manager will organize and lead the execution of R&D and supplier approval projects, working independently:

  • The smooth management of assigned Raw material, process, finished goods and/or packaging related projects and project logistics of medium complexity, including interfacing with internal and external stakeholders (where applicable)

  • Take full ownership and accountability of the technical activities of project timelines and budget leading to on time in full project delivery

  • Leading Raw material localization projects in line with sector company team 

  • The planning and execution of projects and project documentation, in accordance with the R&D Compliance protocol

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Observe and act on safety rules and regulations while performing his/her duties

  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices, use appropriate glove, working cloth and mouth mask as required

  • Collect all information for SQA process

  • Work closely with FS, QA, RA during qualification process

  • Work closely with suppliers (liase and coach them on company procedures to enable success of MQ)

  • Lead communication to broader team (SQA, QA, FS, RA)

  • Leading raw material localization projects in line with sector company team

  • Lead Supplier approval process collaboration with sector company team

  • Provide support to local supplier to meet the company supplier requirements

  • Establish opportunities to improve productivity by driving for innovation in equipment and operating methods/practices and provide site leadership with proposals.

  • Provide support and expertise on boil-out schedules and submit specific requirements to the Food safety teams and shift teams.

  • Develops business cases, Capex proposals and supports projects that enhance productivity, capacity, flexibility, quality and EHS.

  • Proposes changes/improvements to the processing facility where Safety and Consumer Risk Protection is compromised.

  • Smooth management of assigned technical and packaging related projects and project logistics of standard complexity, including management of suppliers (where applicable)

  • Work closely with TDC and the respective support functions within R&D to ensure legal compliance of all products.

  • Compilation, analysis and interpretation of data for quality scorecards and/or consumer research, trials, product analysis and associated report writing and presentations.

  • Product formulation and development of protocepts (Experimental Design) to achieve a consumer winning design

  • Identify and lead cost savings/productivity in conjunction with other business functions, particularly led by changes in process or product design

  • Manage and maintain all TSG documents and product design standards

  • Support QA to ensure product, packaging and seasoning comply to design quality and conduct trouble shooting on raw materials, final product and process when required.

  • Sample preparation, chemical analysis and interpretation of data

Reporting to: QA&FS + R&D manager & regional R&D

Duty Station: Tulefa, Ethiopia

Job Requirements

Education, Experience and Skills/Person Specification:

Education:  BSc Degree Food Science, Food Technology, Food Engineering

  • Knowledge of food processing and technologies

  • Product formulation 

  • Strong Food Science knowledge base

  • Project management

  • Computer literate 

  • Strong communication skills

  • Leadership potential 

  • Data analysis, interpretation and report writing

  • Basic financial understanding                             

Experience: Minimum: 5 years’ experience in R&D environment in FMCG
