Job Description

Ethio Wetlands and Natural Resources Association (EWNRA) is a civil society organization, non-political, non-religious and non-for-profit working in areas of sustainable wetlands/ natural resources management livelihoods improvement with the aim to achieve the dual goals of environment and development in Ethiopia. EWNRA, with funding secured from Lucile and David Packard Foundation through the Population, Health and Environment Ethiopian Consortium (PHE-EC), is implementing a project entitled Integrated Sustainable Agriculture, Livelihood, Environment and RH/FP (ALC) in Doreni woreda of Ilu Ababor Zone, Oromia Regional State, Southwest Ethiopia. Currently, EWNRA is looking to hire one experienced professional to fill the following vacant post in the aforementioned project. 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Under close supervision and support of EWNRA Southwest Ethiopia coordination office coordinator and in collaboration with local government institutions will lead day-to-day project implementation within the project intervention kebeles.

  • In collaboration with the local government experts, undertake regular and extensive field visits and provide on-job trainings as deemed necessary to support community based organizations and individual farmers to strengthen their capacities in the areas of forest friendly livelihood interventions and other livelihood options as appropriate.

  • Responsible for the overall facilitation of project activities towards the engagement of multi-stakeholders, particularly community-based institutions (JFM cooperatives, saving and credit cooperatives) and their members, local government institutions pertinent to the purpose of the program.

  • In collaboration with government staff provide appropriate technical supports to strengthen PHE integration (reproductive health, family planning, gender equity, forest conservation, sustainable agriculture and improved livelihoods)

  • Guide trainings for communities and development agents on pertinent topics in relation to NRM, soil and water conservation, crop quality improvement, agroforestry, in areas of vegetable and fruit production, compost making, climate smart agriculture, fuel saving stoves, SACCOs strengthening and other relevant topics;

  • Facilitate and organize capacity building such as trainings to peer educators and village health committees (VHC) in the areas of population, health, environment and livelihoods integrations;

  • Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly progress reports and submit to EWNRA Southwest coordination office on timely basis,

  • Perform other organizational and project related tasks that may be required by the coordination office.  

Terms of employment: - one year (12 months) contract with possibility of extension based on successful performance.

Job Requirements

Qualification:

  • the potential candidate for the post should have Bachelor Degree (B Sc) from recognized universities/ colleges in Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Agroforestry and /or related fields.

Work Experiences:

  • S/he should have  at least  four years and above demonstrable work experience in areas of participatory forest management (PFM), local (community) institutions development, PHE integration approaches, soil and water conservation practices, climate smart agriculture (CSA) practices, community livelihoods improvement, community consultation and rural appraisal, establishment and management of cooperatives. NGO experience is an advantage.

Knowledge of local language (Oromiffa) is mandatory.
