BACKGROUND & PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT
WFP’s activities include food assistance for relief, school feeding, safety nets, nutrition, and food assistance for asset creation through the provision of in-kind and cash-based transfers. The Person with Disability Internship Programme is a learning opportunity aimed at attracting young and talented candidates across the country. The program will provide selected candidates with the opportunity to supplement their academic knowledge with practical work assignments in a field related to the work of WFP. This will promote a better understanding of WFP Ethiopia’s mandate and programs. Similarly, the program will provide WFP with qualified individuals specializing in relevant fields in line with WFP’s Strategic Objectives and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Support the Logistics unit, including the Field Support, Pipeline, Customs, and Transport teams, with day-to-day processes in an effort to gain an understanding of the role the Logistics Units play in the overall operations of WFP Ethiopia.
Draft letters and documents for submission to the Ethiopian Customs Agency for incoming food commodities and non-food items from the ports and neighboring countries.
Support in tracking WFP Ethiopia sub-office requirements for warehouse items and office supplies, ensuring that each office is equipped with the necessary items to fulfill operations.
Create charts for tracking commercial transporter allocations for the uplift of cargo transporter performance for regular review by the Transport team to improve efficiencies.
Gather information and document achievements of the Logistics Unit against the monthly Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) from the Logistics unit and sub-office logistics teams.
Support on information management and documentation tasks, produce PowerPoint presentations and reports of weekly and monthly activities of the logistics unit for the Head of Logistics, Head of Supply Chain, and WFP Ethiopia management.
Attend weekly Operations Team meetings and track all tasks for follow-up.
Support the analysis of food requirements for field hubs and allocations of incoming cargo from the ports.
Support on the drafting and tracking of Notes for the Record and tracking incidents.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Education: University degree in Transport Economics, Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, Business Management, or another related field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training/courses ( recent graduate within 2 years for Addis and 4 years for Mekele)
Languages: Fluency in oral and written communication in English
