Background:

John Snow, Inc. (JSI) is a public health management firm, headquartered in the United States, dedicated to improving the health of individuals and communities throughout the world. JSI has been implementing public health work in Ethiopia for over 25 years.

JSI is implementing the five-year Digital Health Activity in Ethiopia, which is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The purpose of this Activity is to support the Government of Ethiopia (GOE) to improve the quality of health services and create a sustainable healthcare system through the use of data for decision-making, as well as to provide similar services to other countries in Africa or to respond to a crisis in Ethiopia (as needed). The primary objectives of the Activity are to 1) support information technology systems and data repositories at all levels; 2) build a culture of data use; and 3) improve the capacity and governance of MOH health information systems management.

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Intern Software Engineer to join our Digitalization. The successful candidate will work closely with senior software engineers and other team members to design, develop, test, and maintain software applications. The intern will have the opportunity to learn and gain hands-on experience in software development methodologies and technologies.

Responsibilities:

Specific responsibilities of an intern Software Engineer will include, but is not limited to the following:

●  Collaborate with senior engineers and other team members to design and develop software applications

●   Write, test, and maintain high-quality code

●  Debug and troubleshoot software issues

●  Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback

●  Learn and apply software development methodologies and technologies

●  Work effectively in a team environment and meet project deadlines

●   Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

Applicants for this position should possess the following qualifications:

●  Enrolled or fresh graduate in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field

●    Strong programming skills in at least one programming language (such as C#, Javascript, Java, Python, or C++)

● Familiarity with web development frameworks (such as Angular, React, or Vue)

●  Familiarity with software development concepts and methodologies

●   Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively

● Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

●  Willingness to learn and apply new technologies

●   Experience with software development tools and technologies (such as Git, Agile/Scrum, or JIRA)

● Knowledge of database systems and SQL

●  Understanding of software testing and debugging techniques
