Brief introduction

REACH Ethiopia is a non-profit local organization established and registered as an Ethiopian Residents Charity. It strives to contribute for community development through implementation of innovative and targeted project interventions to deliver quality health services for disadvantaged communities. Since its establishment in 2013, REACH Ethiopia has implemented community-based TB care interventions and integrated health service projects in Sidama, SNNP and parts of Oromia Regions.

REACH Ethiopia in collaboration with Ministry of Health is currently implementing different projects throughout Ethiopia. The goal of the projects are to contribute to regional effort to achieve END TB 90(90)90 milestone set for 2023 by increasing the quality, access, utilization, and sustainability of TB services in the project implementation area.

Purpose of the Position

The Senior TB Laboratory Quality Assurance Advisor, under the supervision of the Project Manager, is responsible for leading the implementation of interventions  for Infection Diseases Detection and Surveillance (IDDS)  Project  to strengthen the national TB diagnostic network system in Ethiopia. This includes building the capacity of TB laboratories on implementing laboratory quality management system, provide training on TB diagnostic network strengthening, support implementation of TB laboratory connectivity and advise on implementation of national TB strategic plan.

Organizational Position

The Senior TB Laboratory Quality Assurance Advisor reports to the Project Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support on building capacity of TB laboratories on laboratory quality management system.

  • Technically advise EPHI, NTP, Regional Laboratories and other TB laboratory diagnostic entities on strengthening quality assurance and TB diagnostic network.

  • Provide high level technical assistance and support for the national and regional laboratories in implementation of LabXpert connectivity system.

  • Advise and support the revision and implementation of TB diagnostic policies, strategies, implementation of TB diagnostics, improving utilization of newly recommended diagnostics.

  • Provide innovative technical assistance that paves way to marked improvement in quality TB diagnostic services by coming up with innovative solutions and strategies to existing TB lab systems problems in the country.

  • Advise and support the national and regional implementation of the National TB laboratory strategic plan.

  • Advise and support laboratories on approaches to improve adherence to the national TB diagnostic algorithm.

Contract term: Full time Position, fixed term as per the project period

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

  • BSc Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology/Science and master’s degree in microbiology or equivalent with minimum 8 years, post-qualification experience in TB or related vertical programs laboratory systems support at national and/or regional level.

  • Sound knowledge of basic principles, techniques and safety procedures and quality management in the laboratory system.

  • Knowledge in laboratory quality management system, TB diagnostic network, TB laboratory program and strong experience of instituting good lab practice.

  • Experience on Ethiopian laboratory information systems.

  • Experience on supervision, training, management, and monitoring skills of other lab staff
