Job Description

Dan Church Aid (DCA) DCA is a Danish Humanitarian and Development organisation working to assist and empower people affected by poverty and disasters to live a life in dignity. In Ethiopia, DCA’s area of works includes humanitarian response, food security, resilience building of vulnerable community members, and  gender and capacity building of civil society organisations. DCA currently has its main office in Addis Ababa and field offices in Gambella, Bale, Afar and Waghimra. 

Overall Job purpose:

 Responsible for building a strong DCA profile and project portfolio in rethinking food systems to be more sustainable, adapting to climate change and value chain development (producer to consumer).

 Take the lead in building a strong portfolio in job creation for women and youth with clear linkages to the market (demand) and private sector engagement (on farm/off farm)

 Multi stakeholder management, including private sector, government institutions, CSO partners and donors will be critical important.

Main responsibilities:

  • Responsible for building a strong DCA profile and project portfolio in rethinking food systems to be more sustainable, adapting to climate change and value chain development (producer to consumer).

  • By identifying new partners and alliances with whom DCA can collaborate, take the lead in developing a strong portfolio of job creation and entrepreneurship for women and youth in Ethiopia, with clear market (demand) links and private sector engagement (on and off farm).

  • Multi-stakeholder management, which involves the commercial sector, governmental organizations, CSO partners, and donors, will be crucial and require close collaboration with DCA HQ colleagues.

  • Train & develop competencies among DCA staff and partners on Food Systems, private sector engagement and market linkage.

  • Provide technical support on the possibility of engaging with financial institutions to provide saving and credit services and develop blended finance models for DCA’s work, including digital approaches to savings groups.

  • Provide technical support on how to link beneficiaries and groups with market access in a long-term development and humanitarian setting.

  • Work with project staff ensure that the consortium of the project managed well for each partner to deliver line with the cooperative agreement Lead the report preparation for Food Systems and private sector projects.

  • Develop DCA Ethiopia’s stakeholder engagement and due diligence approach to uphold DCA’s cross-cutting commitments on responsible business conduct when engaging the private sector (supported by DCA HQ

  • Ensure the development and implementation of Food Systems and private sector engagement projects (as part of DCA’s country programme and global strategy goals).

  • Ensure that smooth partnership and work relations is maintained with stakeholder, including private sector, government institutions, CSO partners and donors (in alignment with donor criteria).

  • Ensure cross-learnings with other projects in Ethiopia, coordination with DCA HQ staff on private sector engagement.

  • Ensure the compliance of DCA finance policies and donor requirements

DCA Ethiopia Office is looking for a competent Food Systems and Private Sector Engagement Manager

Job Requirements

Required knowledge and experience:

  •  Third Level qualification in a relevant discipline (Development Studies, DRR Management Agriculture and related field) from a recognized university.

  • At least 8 years’ relevant experience .

  • Adequate working knowledge of requirements and guidelines of donor.

  • Strong skills in monitoring program performance (both activities and finances) and able to advise, support and adjust to reach set goals, objectives and strategic aims.

  • Good knowledge of project cycle management

  • Excellent proposal and report writing skills, with close attention to detail.
