Job Description
Working Relationship
The post holder will work closely with colleagues in the programme team in Ethiopia and the global office in London. He/she works with affiliates and partner organisations working on the wellbeing of the older people.
Background
HelpAge International's vision is one of a world where older people fulfil their potential to lead active, dignified, healthy and secure lives. HelpAge is an international network, bringing together more than 114 affiliates and 200 partners working with older people in over 90 countries.
HelpAge has been present in Ethiopia since the year 1992 and currently implementing multi sector programmes (health, refugee assistance, drought mitigation, social protection etc.) in Gambella, SNNPR, Benishangul Gumuz and Oromia regions of Ethiopia. The organization works closely with various ministries and authorities of the Government of Ethiopia (Ministry of Women and Social Affairs, rural development, the RRS and DPPB).
Ethiopia country programme works closely with an affiliate organization, Ethiopian Elderly Pensioners National Association (EEPNA) and other implementing partners, in programming as well as campaigning activities to address issues of older persons.
Job Purpose
To assist the development and implementation of national communication strategy, maintaining, reviewing, and managing systems for processing and sharing of information for the HelpAge Ethiopia team and affiliates and partners, to gather and process information in support of initiatives in the country and to act as the main point of contact on communication issues between HelpAge in Ethiopia, and HelpAge Global Office.
National and International Communications Strategy
Assist in the development and implementation of HelpAge Ethiopia country office communications strategy.
Provide assistance to promote HelpAge communications to key stakeholders, within the global network and other organisations interested in older people’s issues in the country, identified in the communications strategy.
Assist in processing and organizing information flowing to the Ethiopia office, contributing to the work of the HelpAge Ethiopia staff and HelpAge in general.
Assist in building alliances and communications network in Ethiopia, including with HelpAge affiliates and partners.
Assist in ensuring adherence to HelpAge’s policies, brand manual and donor requirements in all Internal and external communications.
Media
Provide assistance in writing stories, press releases, and other media content.
Accompany and support media on visits to country office and to partners and project areas.
Assist in monitoring coverage of HelpAge’s key issues in Ethiopian media and track HelpAge media hits.
Assist in developing contents for social media accounts of HelpAge in Ethiopia.
Publications, Documentations, Photography, Video
Assist in designing and publications for, banners, billboards, leaflets briefing notes, info sheets, booklets, newsletters and fact sheets.
Visit HelpAge Ethiopia field office to document project activities, in photographs, videos and case studies.
Promote increased use of HelpAge’s resource centre by staff and partner organization.
Assist in marketing HelpAge publications to HelpAge affiliates, donors, international organisations, and potential readers.
Assist in Documentation of Program Operations Meetings
Events, Online Campaign, Social Media
Support facilitation of essential international days (International Day of Older Persons, Elder Abuse Day, International Women’s Day) in collaboration with HelpAge’s partners and Network members.
Support in dissemination of core messages (online campaign) through HelpAge Ethiopia’s social media accounts.
Collaborate with like-minded organizations to promote the wellbeing of older people in Ethiopia.
Support social media management and provide regular blogging of project activities, success stories on HelpAge Ethiopia’s social media accounts.
Other duties
Maintain a roster of professional photojournalists and photographers in the country to be ready to dispatch during emergencies.
Assist in coordinating, gathering, filing and use of the photographic and video documentation in the country office.
Support staff in branding presentations, preparing, and organising exhibits.
Participate in conferences, seminars, and meetings as appropriate.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Person Specification
Essential:
At least 04years of experience in producing communications materials for public audiences and working with photographic resources.
Experience of photography.
Experience of using social media platforms.
Fluent English.
Experience of writing press releases, pitching ideas to media and briefing journalists
Editing, proofreading and production skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills including ability to advise staff and management on media issues.
Ability to work as a team and on own initiative without the need for prompting from others.
Ability to prioritise tasks and manage a varied workload under pressure to deadlines.
Ability and willingness to be self-servicing, including word-processing, and filing.
Experience in graphic design and video editing.
Ability with IT and experience in the use of a variety of editing and publishing software (Adobe Photoshop. Adobe Premier Pro, Adobe Illustrator, Canva, Final Cut)
Desirable
At least a first university degree or equivalent in communication, literature, language, or marketing.
Knowledge of, or interest in, ageing and development issues.
Knowledge of print media, broadcast, and electronic development media.
Experience or understanding of campaigning for positive change.
