About the role

 A lab technician performs highly mechanical, technical, or diagnostic tests in a scientific laboratory.

Duties and responsibilities

• Set up, maintain, calibrate, clean, and test sterility of medical laboratory equipment and supplies

• Inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.

• Repairing and Maintaining Mechanical Equipment which can be fixed within the scope of knowledge

•  Follow safety procedures while handling hazardous chemical reagents in the laboratory

• Collect and dispose blood or other samples from patients based on standard operating procedures

• Obtain specimens, isolating, and identifying microorganisms for analysis.

• Prepare standard volumetric solutions or reagents to be combined with samples, following standardized formulas or experimental procedures.

• Conduct chemical analyses of body fluids, such as blood or urine, using microscope or automatic analyzer to detect abnormalities or diseases and enter findings into computer. 

• Follow the specialty center’s standard operational procedure or set of criteria for acceptance and rejection of clinical samples.

• Follow the centers procedure for the storage of clinical samples if not immediately examined

• Once sample is used the remnants shall be discarded following standard infection prevention protocols

• Maintain record of all samples received

• File reports with the patient’s medical record and file duplicate copies in the laboratory in an accessible manner with appropriate backup

• Report test results on standard forms with the appropriate information which shall include (name, age, gender, date and time of sample collection, date and time of test performed, reference or normal range, name of the professional performing the test and authorized signature of the person reviewing the report and releasing the result, address of the specialty center).

• Provide legible Laboratory results without prescription mistakes to authorized person

• Report problems or defects of equipment that need more technical assistance to the operations manager.

Required Qualification & skill

• Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Laboratory Technician or in a related field of study

·         1-year experience degree Laboratory

·         2 years of experience diploma laboratory
