Position Title Communications Assistant (3 Positions)
Duty Station Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is the UN Migration Agency with 174 Member States. IOM works closely with governmental, intergovernmental, and non-governmental partners in the field of migration. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.
Under the overall supervision of the Senior Programme Support Coordinator and the direct supervision of the Media and Communications Coordinator, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing communication materials, both print and digital, to raise awareness and to share key messages with all of IOM’s target audiences in Ethiopia and in the Continent. In particular, he/she will undertake the following responsibilities and accountabilities.
Work with communication team and project managers to give project activities and Mission events visibility.
Create digital content and assets (photographs, graphics, video) for IOM Ethiopia’s and SLO Addis Ababa’s social media accounts and websites - working from general concept, script writing, photography/videography, editing, audio balancing, sub-titling, format exporting, to archiving raw and edited work, et cetera.
Produce photos, graphics and videos of the highest quality in accordance with IOM standards using IOM’s HD quality video camera and professional editing software.
Produce original and easy to digest illustrations and infographics for factsheets, reports, brochures, posters, web articles, and other communication/ visibility materials in thematic areas of work.
Design and layout publications and other communication products, such as factsheets, reports, brochures, posters, presentations, and others.
Undertake field duty travel as needed to compile materials and take photographs and video footage.
Interview IOM beneficiaries and staff in the field and draft multimedia human interest stories, clearly identifying location, name and age of interviewees, quotes and other relevant details.
Edit the footage in line with the agreed script, embed sub-titles in the video as per need and produce a professional quality package to support project communication.
Include appropriate IOM branding and crediting of IOM ownership for the produced graphics and videos.
Deliver the final photos, graphics and videos in different formats (for social media, and online).
Archive the edited output in shareable format and maintain an up-to-date log of all content produced.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Professional certification from a film or multimedia design school and Bachelor’s degree in Media and Communication, Journalism, Graphic Design, Social Sciences, Humanities, Public Administration, Economics, Political Science or a related field from an accredited academic institution.
Experience
Desirable of five or a minimum of three year’s of relevant professional experience specifically in designing, filming professionally and producing digital products for social media and other platforms.
Proven experience in using graphic design and video editing software packages for social media and other platforms.
Proven knowledge with design, video and social media communications for development organizations is an asset.
Multilingual language skills – Amharic and English. Strong writing, speaking, and translation skills for documents and in meeting settings.
Willingness to assume duties and responsibilities in all communications areas, as needed.
Languages
Fluency in English (oral and written).
Knowledge of Amharic, Oromiffa and other local languages
Skills
Must have in-depth knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop required, Adobe Premiere Pro and Mailchimp.
