Job Description
The main purpose of the job:
The holder of this role will spend their time coordinating public diplomacy projects.
The ultimate aim of this role, which will sit with the Soft Power teams, managed by the Soft Power Project Manager, is to improve perceptions of the UK in Ethiopia, particularly with the country’s fast-growing, dynamic youth population. The job holder will leverage positive sentiment to deliver the UK’s objectives on important issues like the empowerment of women and girls.
The job holder will be proactive and quickly develop a good understanding of the UK’s objectives in Ethiopia, to advise and support teams across the Embassy on how best to reach Ethiopia’s growing young population. The job holder will lead the coordination of public diplomacy projects, drafting concept notes and budgets, engaging with stakeholders and delivery partners and ensuring delivery is on schedule.
The ideal candidate will be organized, creative and great at building relationships.
Roles and responsibilities:
Public diplomacy projects:
Coordinate the delivery of the British Embassy’s public diplomacy projects, mostly at low- to no-cost, ensuring they deliver soft power for the UK and also serve other UK policy objectives in the UK.
Set and meet deadlines to ensure pacey delivery on projects, managing multiple pieces of work at once.
Build relationships with youth organizations and where appropriate, pitch opportunities for British Embassy engagement.
Lead scoping of and engagement with project delivery partners and stakeholders.
Plan and manage small project budgets.
Draft concept notes and funding bids for new project ideas.
Work closely with the Communications team to ensure public diplomacy projects are amplified in the media and on social media to ensure they reach wide audiences.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience
Experience working on external relations or communications.
Proven ability to deliver high-quality work to deadlines.
Project or program management experience.
Demonstrated ability to quickly get to grips with new systems and processes.
Excellent written English.
Language requirements:
Language: English and Amharic
Level of language required: Fluent in both
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
Experience working in an international environment.
Experience working directly with senior stakeholders.
Experience in planning and delivering events.
Experience creating social media content.
Knowledge of another Ethiopian language.
