ROLE PURPOSE
Under supervision of the Health and nutrition Officer, the Nutrition Assistant is responsible for supporting all start-up nutrition activities in PIE Gambella program Area in Host and Refugee intervention. S/he will be responsible for providing technical guidance to ensure that program implementation adheres to appropriate international technical standards and guidelines are technically sound
The Nutrition Assistant is responsible for implementation of all health and nutrition related activities including SAM, IYCF-E at local level using participatory and community based or outreach approaches. S/he is also expected to provide technical support Woreda Health extension Workers and other staff working in the area of under-five nutrition. S/he is also responsible for collecting child Health Data including growth monitoring and sharing for appropriate health expert for case identification based on the biometric information.
ACCOUNTABILITIES and MAIN WORK ACTIVITIES
Program Management: - according to the national protocols
Work closely with OTP/SC Nurse to ensure all aspects of the programme are understood and agreed and appropriate referrals take place to and from the OTP.
Ensure all national and global criteria including admission, discharge and transfer criteria are respected and understood by the HEWs and HWs, including admission, discharge and transfer to and from the SC/OTP.
Ensure comprehensive health checks and correct clinical diagnosis at the time of assessment according to the CMAM protocols so that the patient receives appropriate treatment in the relevant program.
Ensure timely identification of complications, non-respondents and referrals to the SC.
Ensure adequate availability of all medical and food supplies and ensure stock is pre-positioned as planned by discussing with logistics
Work closely with health and nutrition staff and other prevention nutrition promoters and lead mothers to mother support groups to ensure sustainable child caring practice is implemented at family level.
Plan and organize TSF and IYCF counseling and education at the designated distribution sites in collaboration with other nutrition teams.
Provide supportive supervision to the Health Extension Workers (HEWs) at the health post and health center
Plan to conduct gap assessment of staff capacity building and SC and OTP center service provision and closely working with Health and nutrition officer and coordinator to mitigate
Through liaison with the HWs and HEWs provide effective follow up of all cases: particularly tracing of children who are absent from the programme, sick children, children not gaining weight, and children with social problems etc.
Provide On-the-Job training to HEWs on the provision of key health and education messages to beneficiaries based the acceptable protocol and guidelines
Providing Woreda Health Office staffs with technical support in convening meetings and answering questions on topics relevant to the project as necessary.
Assist HEWs to compile the statistical data.
Establish good relationship with the local authorities and community leaders.
Establish link and meetings with the community leaders and different group existing in the working
Perform any other duties requested by the immediate supervisor
Organize and ensure the documentation of Health education and capacity building activities
Participate in dissemination of appropriate hygiene educational materials.
Work closely with health and nutrition staff and other prevention nutrition promoters and lead mothers to mother support groups to ensure sustainable child caring practice is implemented at family level.

Conduct home-to-home beneficiary follow-up and defaulter tracing including nutrition counseling.
Provide a daily and weekly CMAM report to the CMAM officer.
Effectively implemented capacity building activities for local health facilities
Support the Health and Nutrition officer in provision of continuous on the job training for the health extension workers and food distribution agents to enhance proper case management and early case findings.
Provided formal and on job training for health workers and HEWs and supportive MC Nutrition field workers and community mobilizers.
Support the Health and nutrition officer in during Identifying health workers and health extension workers for technical training for management of acute malnutrition and integrating IYCF-E with other project activities.
Facilitate health and nutrition trainings for partners where possible (e.g. technical workshops, training on SAM guidelines, IYCF and CBN guidelines, etc).
To follow up and provide ongoing technical support to the activities of the trained partners
To participate in the monitoring and evaluation of these activities, and to propose recommendations for developing future intervention in the target area.
Coordinated with Plan- team activities
To collaborate and communicate with other Plan program officers (Finance, livelihoods, logistics, etc) to ensure harmonization of activities according to Plan’s mission strategy.
Inform/update the Emergency Project Coordinator on nutrition activities on a regular basis.
Timely submitting all expected reports
Daily, Weekly and Monthly activity report to be sent to CMAM officer including the best achievements and key challenges.
Properly documentation of the health and nutrition and other program activities.
End of mission and handover reports to be sent to the Health and Nutrition officer before end of mission.

Ensure compliance with security procedures and policies as determined by country leadership.

Other Responsibilities

Safeguarding Children and Young People (Safeguarding) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI)
Understands and puts into practice the responsibilities under Safeguarding and GEI policies and Plan International’s Code of Conduct (CoC), ensuring that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.
Ensures that the team members under supervision are properly inducted on and understands their role in holding Plan International’s safeguarding and GEI policies;
Ensures that Plan International’s global policies for Safeguarding Children and Young People and Gender Equality and Inclusion are fully embedded in day-to-day work.
Ensures that Plan Ethiopia contributes to Plan International’s global efforts to ensure safeguarding and GEI, including making sure that relevant reporting and data are submitted.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications/ experience essential:
Diploma or BSC Public health or clinical Nursing, and Human nutrition from a recognized nurse-training institute and at least four year’s relevant experience.
Knowledge and experience in management of severe and moderately malnourished children and PLWs
At least two years practical experience in CMAM program management.
At least 2 years relevant experience in an international NGO or similar organization.
Knowledge of policy and practice in the field of Community Based Management of Acute Malnutrition and IYCF-E
Computer literate in word processing and excel packages an additional assets.
An understanding of child rights and child protection and fulfilment in the development context.
Qualifications/ experience desirable:
Solid technical skill on management acute malnutrition and technical support for health workers and HEWs
Profound experience in Maternal and Child Health service provision government health system.
Experience and/or strong professional links with work in this field in other countries
Specialist expertise in either Inclusion or Social and gender norm change
Knowledge of full CMAM and IYCF-E will be an added advantage.
Demonstrated skills in program planning, implementation and monitoring.
Ability to lead mobile teams and able to create good team sprit among the group.
Strong computer (Microsoft skills), and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
.Good human relation skills.
Willingness to work under pressure and extra hours
Languages required
