II. About the Project
Horticulture 4 Growth (H4G): An Initiative of the Agricultural Commercialization Clusters (ACCs) is a new $6M, 5-year project being jointly implemented by TechnoServe and the Agricultural Transformation Institute (ATI), funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. H4G will accelerate the transformation of Ethiopia’s horticulture sub-sector by leveraging the power of the private sector to strengthen the link between production and demand and improve the road-to-market for horticultural products through modernized domestic and export market channels. The project will primarily focus on five priority horticulture crops (banana, avocado, tomato, onion, and avocado) sourced from horticulture ACC woredas to transform the relationships of key market actors to be more inclusive and equitable. By the end of five years, a strengthened horticulture market system underpinned by a strong private sector will enable Ethiopian small-scale producers to earn higher, more stable incomes and increase the consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables in rural and urban areas.
Reporting to the Analytics Manager, the Investment Analyst will be responsible for the pre-award administration of the catalytic fund which is provided to support private partners to expand sourcing models or invest in improved market infrastructure and logistics e.g. wholesalers, traders, farmer cooperatives and unions, transport service providers, and processors. His/her tasks will include announcing opportunities, proactive identification of potential applicants, reviewing applications, contract negotiation, and signing. The investment analyst is also responsible for the grant pipelines tracking and documentation such as the financial documentation of delegated grants, and the filling of grantees' documentation.
The Investment Analyst's duties and responsibilities are described below:
Grant fund award and management:
Design structure, processes for selection and management of the grant fund
Be the primary contact person to answer questions related to application, monitoring, and closeout procedures
Announce a fund opportunity that outlines all the pertinent information and requirements for an applicant to assess their eligibility, competency, and interest in the funding opportunity; ensure the fund is advertised regularly and on mediums that are easily accessible to applicants
Solicit and identify investment opportunities and coach those companies through the application process
Pre-screen applications to ensure it includes all the required elements to qualify for the grant
Initiate and facilitate the evaluation process by sharing all the necessary documents with the selection committee will assess and score each application
Initiate and conduct pre-award assessment/due diligence
Track the status and keep a record of all applicants
Attracting new investments:
Demonstrate profitability of private sector investments in infrastructure & logistics that benefit male and female smallholder farmers
Explore appropriate, affordable technologies that address proper harvesting, storage, and potential service providers for the technologies identified
Engage and convince private companies to invest in H4G geographies in the identified areas
Business model development:
For selected grant recipients, conduct a business diagnostic to identify possible areas for growth, ways to increase profitability, ways to improve efficiencies, ways to reduce cost, etc by analyzing the root causes of issues faced by the business.
Based on the finding, prepare a detailed strategic roadmap outlining target outcomes and the interventions needed to achieve that
Education:
MSc/BSc in Economics, business, management, finance, or related field
Experience:
A bachelor’s degree in Economics, business, management, finance, or related field
A minimum of 3 years (for BSc) and 1 year (for Masters) years of experience in business analysis or a related field
Strong familiarity with foundations of Finance, Accounting, and economics
The ability to influence stakeholders and work closely with them
Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
Exceptional analytical and conceptual thinking skills.
Advanced Excel skills
