POSITION SUMMARY:

The seed system within the inputs program of the Ethiopian Agricultural Transformation Institute, is setup to strengthen the seed industry so that it can deliver sufficient quantities of high-quality seeds of improved varieties in a timely manner so that farmers are enable to increase their yield and household income. The program works in close partnership with relevant stakeholders in the design and implementation of strategic interventions that will address systemic bottlenecks of the seed system across the value chain.

Among these deliverables is the Institutional Support for Seed Systems in Ethiopia (ISSSE) Project supporting partners in the production and delivery of quality EGS with sufficient volume, enhancing the capacity of seed quality assurance and creating enabling environments through drafting and enacting of policy documents. The role of the seed expert is to support the implementation of these major components of the project and contribute to the liberalization of the seed system.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • The Project offer is responsible to take on responsibility for day-to-day operational and problem-solving activities, including stakeholder engagement, preparing materials for and organizing meetings and workshops, and conducting analysis on the outputs of the ISSSE and related FPC projects.

  • Support the design of a concrete implementation plan with clear activities, milestones and targets in collaboration with stakeholders and development partners.  

  • Support the development and review of modules and organize workshops, training sessions and capacity building programs for relevant stakeholders. to be used for training relevant stakeholders.

  • The Project Officer is accountable for providing support to the team leader on the project’s annual implementation design, technical support on project implementation, coordinating the annual project performance evaluations to identify key strengths, lessons and challenges and plan for the next year and reporting to the project manager.

  • Work closely and build relationships with other members of the project and ACC/FPC team, collect and compile ACC/FPC data, conduct analysis to monitor the supply and distribution of EGS and certified seed, verify input information presented in the ACC woredas is accurate, diagnose technical issues with the system.

  • Proactively identify risks and issues affecting task or work stream delivery in the project team, and promptly communicate upward with solution options.

  • Prioritize assigned tasks and manage work streams from start to finish, including timelines, content, and stakeholder input and validation.

  • Support completion of high-quality written documents, data and/or presentations of projects mainly ISSSE and FPC.

  • Responsible for collecting, compiling, summarizing, analysing and submitting basic project data (ISSE & FPC) from regions and partners to the CCP team

Job Requirements

  • Minimum M.Sc. degree with a focus on plant science, agricultural economics, and agricultural extension.  

  • Minimum of 4 years of work experience within the Seed sector in strategically and analytically focused roles in public, private or development sectors.

  • Understanding of Ethiopia’s agricultural system, with a broad perspective on how the entire system operates and how public, private and informal actors operate within the system.

  • Good understanding of input supply chains, technology solutions and tracking systems

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and data gathering skills.

  • Excellent technical/computer skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong team player with excellent communication skills

  • Ability to work under pressure and in a constantly evolving and challenging environment
