Job Description

NEWA in partnership with World Vision Ethiopia is implementing the project titled “Reducing Environmental Shocks, Improving Livelihoods, and Inspiring Empowered, Innovative and Thriving Women of Ethiopia (RESILIENT-WE)” which is a gender transformative, women focused, and human rights-based initiative.  The project is planned to be implemented in East and West Hararghe  of the Oromia Region.

Hence, NEWA would like to recruit a gender Officer, who can facilitate and handle the implementation of the project activities to be done at the zonal and Woreda levels.  Accordingly, the major responsibilities of the gender officer and the required qualifications are indicated as follows.

The Gender Officer will be deployed at Harar and will have the following responsibilities.

  • Assist and facilitate the implementation of the RESILIENT -WE project

  •  Facilitate and support the gender responsiveness of the RESILIENT -WE project

  • Facilitate and follow-up the participation and benefit of women and girls from the project

  • Partner and closely work with World Vision Zonal Offices and EWLA office working in East and West Hararghe Zones

  • Facilitate the partnership of NEWA with regional/zonal project partners and stakeholders

  • Facilitate and lead the GBV case report in the project area

  • Provide technical assistance to the GBV case managers

  • Facilitate the implementation of the project activities at zonal and woreda levels

  • Responsible to represent NEWA at the project area

  • Organize trainings, workshops and meetings to be undertaken by NEWA in project areas

  • Manage documentation and reporting of the project implementation at zonal and woreda levels

  • Take part in project activities to be implemented by World vision

  • Engage in relevant activities and events that promote gender equality 

Job Requirements

Required Qualification and experience

  • Masters Degree in gender studies, development studies, Law

  • Three years  experience in gender analysis, women empowerment and GBV prevention  actions

  • Experience in project implementation and management

  • Having a minimum of Seven year of work experience
