The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) wants to recruit employees in the following vacant positions the details of which are mentioned below.
About the Ethiopian Red Cross Society
The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) was established in 1935 and is one of the oldest and largest humanitarian organizations in Ethiopia. ERCS provides services to communities affected by natural and manmade disasters through the provision of emergency responses, ambulance and first aid, family reunification, essential drugs, water and sanitation, and other humanitarian services. ERCS also runs disaster risk reduction programs with the aim of creating resilience households and communities. Currently the ERCS has a structure consisting of 12 Regional Offices, 34 Zonal Branches and 131 District/Woreda Branches, 599 Woreda Red Cross Committee and 5871 Kebele Red Cross committees.
ERCS also runs Disaster Risk Reduction programs relating to food security, climate change adaptation, livelihood diversification, and institutional capacity building interventions, with the aim of creating resilience households and communities. ERCS works in partnership with the Ethiopian Government, International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC), International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), partnering National Societies, members, volunteers and the communities we serve.
Job summary
Key responsibilities for this position include regularly track donor, potential donor, and umbrella websites for Requests for Applications (RFAs) and proposal submission opportunities for both ERCS, core competency areas and the geographic areas in which ERCS has a presence, assessing ERCS’s competitiveness and strategic positioning in light of these opportunities, and producing completive proposals for submission to potential donor agencies and foundations.
Duties and Responsibilities
Accountable to the Director DRM, the work unit is expected to perform the following major tasks:
Plans, organizes, directs and controls program/project designing and proposal development activities of the unit ;
Ensures that appropriate policy, guidelines and tools that ensure standardized and effective project design and proposal development, across the Society are developed, shared with different work units and branches, effectively and consistently practiced as part of organizational culture of the Society;
Prioritize intervention areas of disaster risk management and capacity development of branch in consultation with concerned bodies
Facilitate and support VCA conducted at Woreda /Zone branch
Ensures proposals and grant applications are developed and prepared according to the Society’s police and guidelines;
Ensures community based projects are regularly formulated and implemented at regional branch
Organize and coordinate the collection, compilation, consolidation and analysis of data to prepare project proposal
Work as a team member to undertake whatever is necessary to complete high quality and competitive project designs and proposals.
Regularly track donor, potential donor, and umbrella websites for Requests for Applications (RFAs) and proposal submission opportunities for both ERCS, core competency areas and the geographic areas in which ERCS has a presence.
Take a lead role in the preparation of project proposals to be submitted to donors;
Facilitate conducting research on potential funding sources and call for proposal on website (computerized grant databases) and publications etc.
Works closely with the Society’s staff in developing and transforming ideas into grant proposals
Develop and write grant proposals to potential donors and persuasively communicate the Society’s mission and programs to potential donors
Ensures funding opportunity databases and activity tracking systems are maintained and updated
Submit and follow up grant requests, including letters, proposals, budgets and presentations to donors
Prioritizing projects to keep multiple proposals moving in a timely manner, meet deadlines and manage supplemental material required for proposals
Works with other work unit to obtain necessary information for proposals/grants and applications
Ensures project descriptions and monitoring and evaluations plans are prepared properly
Ensure the budgets are reasonable and proportionate to the outcomes anticipated by the proposal.
Establish and maintain a professional and cordial relation with fund providers to ensure and check if the information provided meets the requirements
Prepares progress reports on the overall activities of the work unit and submit to Director, DRM

Qualification Requirements:
Second/First degree in Management/ Disaster Risk Management/ Sociology/ Development Studies/Project planning and management/ Regional & Local Development Studies, Economics
8/10 years related work experience, out of which 3/2 years’ experience in proposal writing, including conceptualizing and technical writing position.
Other Skills & Competencies:-
Special Training in project cycle management and program development, Project concept paper.
