Job Description
Zonal Immunization TA provide technical support for zonal health department and Woreda health offices in the overall planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of , communication, and demand creation activities for COVID-19 vaccination and routine immunization services.
With funding from Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, JSI is supporting the Ministry of Health (MoH) on routine immunization and COVID-19 related activities in Ethiopia. This project will provide critical technical assistance to the MoH-Ethiopia, on current COVID-19 vaccination delivery efforts nationwide, in various related areas including planning and coordination (including program management), identification of target populations, vaccination delivery strategies and demand, and health workforce and supportive supervision). To support these efforts, JSI seeks immunization experts to support zonal level activities in Gambella, Ethiopia regions.
The person will serve as JSI’s in-country focal person to provide technical assistance to a zone in Gambella region. He/she will be expected to have close communication and collaboration with RHB counterparts, the project backstopping team based in Addis Ababa and the US, and other partners working on COVID-19 vaccination efforts at the regional level. Additionally, they will be expected to provide inputs to project/donor reports as requested.
Key responsibilities
Provide day-to-day technical support at zonal/woreda level for COVID-19 rollout, including:
Engagement and coordination support for TWG, strategic planning, and coordination of COVID-19 activities
Support woredas with COVID-19 vaccine data analysis and use of data for programmatic decision-making
Support for coordination and linkage between supply chain and program data
Capacity building opportunities and needs for woredas and health facilities
Provide strong technical support during COVID-19 vaccination campaigns:
Support the ZHD in overall preparation for the campaign including support in development of microplanning by all woredas in the zone, identify key issues for demand creation, ensuring vaccines are planned and assigned to each woreda, facilities and temporary sites
Participate in provision of trainings
Attend supportive supervisions and support woreda staff to provide coaching and problem-solving support
Work with zonal and regional teams in identifying woredas and areas that needs support and provide timely technical assistance to address the challenge
Attend daily and other ad-hoc planning, coordination and review meetings
Support ZHD in extracting data from google sheet and DHIS2, analysis of performance and development of presentation for review meetings
Support ZHD in monitoring progress based on target and allocated vaccines
Participate in post campaign evaluation and review meetings
Support ZHD in preparation of reports and updates to RHBs
Ensure integration of COVID-19 vaccination with the routine immunization during non-campaign seasons
Provide technical support to ZHD and woredas within the zone to ensure the continuation of RI activities
Support ZHD in microplanning for RI to be developed to woredas and health facilities in the zone
Participate during supportive supervisions and review meetings organized by RHB, ZHD or other partners
Support ZHD in RI data analysis and provision of feedback to woredas
Other similar tasks assigned by supervisor
Master of public health (MPH) or other equivalent qualifications with first degree in health related disciplines
Minimum of six years working experience in immunization and public health, preferably with routine immunization experience
Minimum of three years supervisory experience
Current experience supporting the planning or implementation of COVID-19 vaccination efforts is highly desirable
Demonstrated experience working with the ZHD or RHB and involvement in technical working groups (must understand local government structures)
Strong organizational, management and communication skills to influence partners and decision-makers at the regional, zonal, and woreda level
Experience of working in DHIS2 and conducting analysis
Computer skills that include Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
Ability to produce accurate data and reports
Fluency in English and Amharic.
Knowledge of the official language of the Region of assignment is a strong asset
Willingness and ability to travel up to 30% of the time to zones and woredas
