About Action Against Hunger
Action Against Hunger-USA is part of the Action Against Hunger International network, which provides humanitarian relief in over 40 countries worldwide in the sectors of nutrition, health, water/sanitation, and food security. Action Against Hunger-USA, an independent NGO, currently manages operations in 8 countries: Kenya, South Sudan, Cambodia, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Haiti, and Somalia. Action Against Hunger-USA has over $75 million in programs, and approximately 2000 staff capital office in the various country offices, Head Quarter in New York City, and Operational Centre in Nairobi. Additional growth is anticipated.
I. Summary of position
Primarily working under the direct supervision of the Deputy Logistics Head of Department - Supply, The Logistics Intern will learn about Action Against Hunger’s standard logistics and supply chain approach and gain meaningful, and practical experience of humanitarian programming. The Logistics intern will be based in Addis Ababa, with regular travel to our field operations to provide logistics support activities.
The Logistics Intern role’s purpose and engagement are:
Purpose: The Logistics Intern position is part of the wider Action Against Hunger internship program policy and implementation exercise that promotes and offers recent graduates a meaningful work experience that would enhance their knowledge, skills, attitudes and employability. By so doing, Action Against Hunger - Ethiopia also gains from the introduction of fresh talent and new perspectives to a specific sector projects or team.
Engagement: The intern will engage with logistics and supply chain staff based in capital and at field levels with the field logistics teams.
Essential Duties
The intern is expected to execute and deliver the following activities:
Provide support to the base “Logistics Team” to roll-out the AAH Logistics Minimum Standards checklist
Support Procurement in terms of the following :- Bid document compilation , deliver to suppliers follow and make ensure bid document collected and responder suppliers name, company name , collection dated and bid document responding date appropriately registered and signed by bidder registered on the provided form. Keep record.
Assist in determining accurate standard specifications
Assist purchase officers while negotiates price, places orders, inspect deliveries including quotation procedures
Assist in the receipt, verification and acceptance of goods and services procured on behalf of partner organizations
Assist in the collection of customs clearing, fund transfers and permits review of payments and verify completeness of the documents and adherence to internal procedures,
Assist in the handover of procured items to partners
Assist in updating asset record and periodical verification; and
Perform other duties as assigned by team.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit for long periods and to concentrate on work, including typing, and turn out heavy volumes of work accurately, within short time frames under stressful situations in the context of a moderately noisy office with many interruptions. Must be able to proofread own work accurately so that only minor corrections are needed on an infrequent basis.

V. Working Conditions, Travel, and Environment
The duties of the job require regular job attendance at least five days per week. Must be available to work outside normal office hours or on the weekends as required.
Must be able to travel as required for standard domestic and international business purposes. While performing the duties of this job in the field, the employee may be exposed to precarious settings under high-security risks and/or very basic living conditions and outside weather conditions, as well as to infectious diseases.
Qualification Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Procurement, Logistics, or Supply Chain Management or related field is required

I. Required Skills & Competencies
Familiar with current national/international Gender strategies.
Knowledge and skill of MS Office Suite is mandatory.
Fluency (written and Spoken) in English is required. Amharic and any other local languages desirable.
Ability to take initiative and prioritize multiple tasks as well as self-direct with minimum supervision.
Genuine interest in and commitment to the opportunity, the mission and principles of Action Against Hunger.
Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
