Job Description
Children Believe Fund (CBF) is a child-centered, community-based international development organization devoted to addressing the needs of children, their families and communities by implementing programs that focus on education, early childhood development, child protection, health & nutrition, WASH, sustainable livelihood development, disaster risk reduction and gender equality in different parts of Ethiopia. Currently Children Believe Fund wants to hire one Communication Officer for the project titled” Improving Play-based quality education and protection services for children affected by conflict in Kobo Ketema and Gidan Woreda, North Wollo, Amhara region (PlayMatters: Sparking Lifelong Learning Emergency Response Mechanism (ERM)) that will focus on education in emergencies, WASH and child protection.
Job Responsibilities:
The Communication Officer is responsible for creating, implementing and overseeing communication that effectively describes and promotes the work of the project. The incumbent will be responsible for designing and producing and ensuring the utilization/use of Information, Education and Communication (IEC)Social and Behavioral Change Communication (SBCC) materials; and plan and coordinate trainings, workshops and meetings of the project. The Communication Officer will produce and submit reports on trainings, workshops and meetings, and capture and lessons learnt and successes of the project.
Key responsibilities include but not limited to:
Design and produce Information, Education and Communication (IEC)Social and Behavioral Change Communication (SBCC) materials focusing child protection, WASH, Learning Through Play and education-in-emergencies related awareness-raising related messages.
Ensures IEC/SBCC materials are properly used by end-users.
Plan and coordinate trainings and workshops on Learning Through Play, education-in-emergencies, interactive teaching, community cohesion for quality education, violence prevention in learning environment, WASH, mental health and psychosocial supports and other relevant project related topics in which teachers, education personnel, student, caregivers, community incentive workers, and other communities’ members participate.
Properly schedule/plan and follow up on the implementation of relevant project meetings and community conversation sessions, and monthly students’ sessions
Ensure proper identification, distribution and use of scholastic materials, teaching and learning materials, and project visibility materials.
Produce and submit reports on trainings, workshops and meetings.
Collect or capture, coordinate, maintain and disseminate or share information, content and visuals related to project performance, lessons learnt and successes.
Facilitate networking with relevant project stakeholders.
Any other relevant activities or duties as deemed by his/her supervisor
Duty station: Kobo Ketema and Gidan Woreda or Woldia, North Wollo, Amhara region
Terms of Employment: One year
Minimum Requirements /Qualifications, Attributes and Traits:
Relevant university degree (Master Degree or BSc Degree) in communication, education, pedagogy public relations, and related fields.
Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience for Master Degree; and minimum of 5 years relevant experience for BSc/BA Degree.
Experiences should be in producing written, and audio-visual communication materials. IEC/SBCC materials focusing child development, child protection, WASH, education-in-emergencies.
Fluent in English and Amharic languages.
Good writing skills in Amharic and English languages.
Excellent training and meeting facilitation skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal communications, relationship-building, team player, and negotiation skills.
Strong computer skills including MS Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, internet and other computer applications.
Be available and willing to work in emergency situation.
Able to multi-task and on occasion work in high pressure environment with tight deadlines
Productive personality traits, patience, sociable, responsible and courage.
