About the Country Program in Ethiopia
Action Against Hunger has been operational in Ethiopia since 1984 responding to both chronic and acute needs through a multi-sectoral strategy where nutrition, Food Security and Livelihoods, WASH, and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support activities are integrated to have a meaningful impact on people’s resilience.
Action Against Hunger currently operates in 5 different regions (Oromia, Somali, Amhara, Benishangul Gumuz, and Gambella) with a portfolio of 20m USD/year of emergency, resilience
building, research, and innovation programs. We have a country team of around 600 staff in 17 regional and satellite offices. Our main donors in Ethiopia in 2020/2021 are BHA, ECHO, Europaid, UNHCR, UNICEF, GFFO, BPRM, SIDA, EHF, WFP, CIAA, and others.
Summary of position
Under direct supervision of the Capital Office Transport Officer, responsible for the vehicle assigned to him, ensure transport of AAH staff and equipment, and ensure the maintenance of the vehicle under his responsibility.
The Driver’s Role’s purpose, engagement, and delivery are:
Purpose (The substantive focus of the job encompassing scope, depth, and difficulty of work both conceptual and applied)
Objective 1: Transport people and equipment under good security conditions:
Activities:
When transporting AAH employees, respect the country’s circulation rules and follow the logistician’s planning and instructions;
Ensure all staff and expatriates put on their security belts.
In case of an accident, immediately get in touch with the closest police station and duly inform the logistics department;
Follow the instructions of the manufacturer and the AAH rules when using the vehicle;
Keep all personal documents as well as those of the vehicle with you and check that they are valid (driving license, insurance paper, order mission, AAH ID card, AAH charter & Waiver of Liability form…)
Fill in the Logbook every day according to AAH Kit Log V_3 procedures.
Respect AAH security rules
Objective 2: Ensure maintenance of the vehicle:
Activities:
the car every morning or evening
Ensure radio communications (if applicable)
Turn off the HF / VHF Radio when starting the engine (if applicable)
Note down fuel consumption in the record book in the morning and at the end of the day as well as any information concerning the maintenance of the vehicle;
Wear security boots.
Ensure that the security toolbox and first aid kit are complete and on-board
Ensure that there are working fire extinguishers inside the car
Ensure the fuel tank is always half full.
Inform the Base Logistician when service is necessary.
Engagement: (The focus of interaction both internally and externally needed to deliver a service seek collaboration and build effective partnerships)
Objective 3: Prepare departures to the field:
Activities:
Inspect and prepare the vehicle the day before departure so as to be on time;
Prepare additional equipment to be brought along according to needs (fuel, stickers, flags, tools, medical kit).
Ensure the good loading and unloading of the car and tight the goods in an appropriate way.
Know the city plan, especially AAH staff houses, INGOs offices, UN offices … and relevant partners’ offices
Make sign a Waiver of Liability form letter for none AAH staff.
Delivery: (The focus on the execution of the work and the role of the team for supporting business/operational functions in terms of timeliness and quality)
Objective 4: Behaviour and reporting
Activities:
Wear on a daily basis AAH visibility clothes.
Behave in a respectful way at the checkpoint and/or to the police officer and/or to the military keeping in mind that you are representing AAH.
Report to the base logistician any problem encountered on the road.
Inform the radio room when departing and returning to the office, people on board, and final destination (if applicable)

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit for long periods and to concentrate on work, including typing, and turn out heavy volumes of work accurately, within short time frames under stressful situations in the context of a moderately noisy office with many interruptions. Working Conditions, Travel, and Environment
The duties of the job require regular job attendance at least five days per week. Must be available to work outside normal office hours or on the weekends as required.

While performing the duties of this job in the field, the employee may be exposed to precarious settings under high-security risks and/or very basic living conditions and outside weather conditions, as well as to infectious diseases.
