About IPHC-E

The International Institute for Primary Health Care - Ethiopia (IPHC-E) is envisioned to be a world class hub to learn about Ethiopia’s experience using primary health care (PHC) approaches to achieve improvements in health.  The Institute strives to provide a global perspective - historical and current - of PHC experience around the world.  Further, IPHC-E provides need-based capacity building training on PHC for trainees from Ethiopia and low-income countries.  Through PHC knowledge generation and management, the Institute provides up-to-date information on PHC and contributes to continually build a stronger PHC programs in low- and middle-income countries.  The IPHC-E Resource Center curates’ resources to share knowledge, information and promising practices to inform health professionals, researchers and anyone interested in primary health care.

IPHC-E is looking to hire a data encoder with experience in MARC, library systems, and website administration of resources for the IPHC-E resource center system.

Roles in brief 

The data encoder for library systems will be knowledgeable about both web design and library systems. He or she will be responsible for cataloging, institutional repositories, digital libraries, and adding and editing content in the systems for the libraries. To ensure effective communication and adherence to the goals of establishing the libraries, he or she will work cooperatively with the IPHC-E resource center staff.

Library system data encoder have a wide range of responsibilities, which can include: 

  • Enter data into databases, websites, digital libraries, Excel spreadsheets, the library catalog, institutional repositories, and other databases using standardized procedures.

  • Reviewing library system data for accuracy and making changes if necessary, including identifying errors, checking duplicate entries, label stickers, barcodes and making corrections or update.

  • Keeping records of data entry via excel and database information.

  • Search PHC related free e books, Extracts data from online records and add into the system.

  • Checks online and offline data against existing files using resources like OPAC, OCLC, Books in Print Online, etc.

  • Review, Add, Update and remove duplication of website data 

Duty station: Addis Ababa   

Duration: 1 month with possibility of extension (September 01 – September 30 2022)

Job Requirements

The successful candidate must demonstrate: 

  • At least 3 years of professional experience in Information Science/Library Science, computer science or a related field

  • A broad variety of IT and knowledge of integrated library system, digital library software (Koha, DSpace)

  • Knowledge of Wordpress, web administration and application developing skills  

  • Be self-motivated, proactive, have a positive attitude & work with minimum supervision

  • Advanced language skills in English; ability to communicate with technical and non-technical staff
