ROLE PURPOSE
The Business Development Coordinator leads successful proposal development, under the guidance of the Business Development Manager. Coordinating, challenging and aligning a range of financial, technical, business development and programme inputs, and producing a high-quality proposal for development, humanitarian nexus to development and emergency programs that satisfies Plan International’s strategy and procedures.
ACCOUNTABILITIES and MAIN WORK ACTIVITIES
Engage with the programme team (both technical and leadership positions) to guide the swift design and development of programme concepts and proposals;
Coordinate with grants management and compliance teams to incorporate compliances in the proposal;
Work closely with Business Development Manager and supporting National Offices to ensure proposals address strategies, compliance and concerns of donors, to support proposal development;
Ensure adherence to Plan’s procedure and guidelines in proposal development;
Develop systems to improve the proposal drafting process;
Work to strict deadlines coordinating with multiple stakeholders and coordinating input from local and international partners, be they public or private for the support of proposal development;
Support the technical teams in preparing accurate budgets that are in line with the proposal strategy and logical frame;
Ensure that each proposal submission is fully costed based on the cost recovery policy
Ensure high-quality and timely production of development, humanitarian nexus to development and emergency project proposals in a range of technical areas;
Ensures proposals are in line with PIE CS, capacity and capability;
Proposals are in line with Plan International’s global standards on CCCD, gender marker, youth and inclusion and consistently applied the IASC Marker in humanitarian actions
Prepare thematic area capacity statement to support fundraising;
Up-date donor mapping package on regular basis;
Prepare FAD Stage 1, 2 and 3 as well as SPAD – as and when required up-date data on the YODA system - then handover to the Grant Compliance and Programme Team;
Prepare and up-date FAD tracker as well as GPMT on monthly basis;
Prepare Funding Gap analysis on quarterly basis;
Support proposal data assessment team at the field level;
Be innovative to prepare a winning proposal and improve proposal success rate;
Other Responsibilities
Within the scope of the role, there will be additional assignments as needed.
Safeguarding Children and Young People (Safeguarding) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI)
Understands and puts into practice the responsibilities under Safeguarding and GEI policies and Plan International’s Code of Conduct (CoC), ensuring that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.
Ensures that Plan International’s global policies for Safeguarding Children and Young People and Gender Equality and Inclusion are fully embedded in the area of work.
Ensures that Plan Ethiopia contributes to Plan International’s global efforts that safeguarding and GEI are included in proposal development and related documents.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge
BA degree in Economics, Sociology, Social Development or related/equivalent subjects.
A minimum of 6 years of experience in proposal development or fund acquisition responsibilities, at least 2 of which spent in the development sector working directly in proposal development in INGOs;
Strong experience in successful proposal development;
Excellent command of logical frameworks, budgets and technical formats;
Capacity to work in a multi-sector team, including coordinating technical input into proposals;
Ability to work with staff in country and NO staff remotely in writing and where necessary revising proposals.
Familiarity with requirements/compliance of key development and humanitarian donors and capacity to work in a multi-donor environment, including multilateral of UN agencies, EU, World Bank, etc., bilateral of USAID, GAC, MFAs etc. and other development funding streams.
Skills
Good program design skills, including capacity to prepare logical, coherent and consistent documents including log frames.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community;
Computer literacy with advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoints;
Demonstrated proposal writing and presentation skills;
Fluency in written and spoken English language;
Results oriented and metrics driven;
Exceptional time management and able to solve problems;
Ability to work under pressure.
Qualifications/ experience desirable:
Master’s degree is preferable
Experience in proposal development and knowledge of donor funding principles.
Languages required
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
