Responsibilities:

• In close collaboration with the JLMP Coordinator, coordinate the review, updating and implementation of the JLMP communication and knowledge management strategy with JLMP Partners.

• Work proactively with JLMP Partners and beneficiaries to help identify opportunities for promoting visibility and sharing knowledge and disseminating information about collaboration and coordination, progress, challenges, lessons learnt, and results of JLMP.

• Collaborate closely with the AU Information and Communication Directorate and JLMP partners communication teams in maintaining the JLMP website, which will host Programme information and content, and assist in creating and posting content on relevant AU social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and others.

• Keep up to date with labour migration and implementing partners’ policies, principles, activities and strategies, and other relevant developments which may impact JLMP.

• Research and draft communication materials such as press releases, blog posts, factsheets, info sheets, newsletters, podcasts, and other audiovisual feature materials, including photos, video and audio among others, for publication in key specialist and general-interest media, and migration platforms and networks within and outside the continent.

• Monitor print and digital media platforms and provide periodic updates on relevant labour migration issues to JLMP Partners and beneficiaries.

• Support the JLMP team and partners by coordinating and contributing to the development of quality visibility and promotional materials (e.g. banners and event factsheets, branded t-shirts, calendars, posters, and audio and video knowledge management products) to be used during events.

Job Requirement

Qualification:

Education: 

• Master’s degree in Journalism, Mass Media Communications, Public Information, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; or

• University degree in the above fields with four years of relevant professional experience.

• Knowledge of migration, labour migration and regional integration policies and trends in Africa;

• Excellent writing skills, with the ability to write coherently and concisely, attention to detail and ability to translate complex/technical policy text into easily accessible content to non-specialist audiences (finalists will be asked to complete a writing and/or editing exercise);

• Proven ability to be part of a fast-moving, culturally dynamic environment and work effectively under pressure and within tight deadlines on multiple projects;

• Flexible and able to work both independently and collegially in a team environment;

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe CS/CC Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, and Premier Pro in particular).

• Experience dealing with print, digital and broadcast journalists, bookers, and producers;

• Knowledge of graphic design, web, social media, and video production;

• Proficiency with multimedia editing software;

• Demonstrated organizational and interpersonal skills;

• Substantive editing and copy-editing skills;

• Strategic and creative mindset with meticulous attention to detail.

Experience:

• Experience in working with the AU, RECs, Member States, IOM, ECA, ILO, non-state actors and development partners in the fields of migration, labour migration, employment, and social protection;

• Experience crafting social media campaigns and effective digital strategies.
