Internal and External Vacancy
Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is looking for qualified candidates to fill the Human Rights Officer position.
Purpose of the Job:
The Human Rights Officer is responsible for assisting the Office of the Chief Commissioner (OCC) with managing and reviewing legal cases, preparing legal analysis documents, carrying out research, and supporting OCC’s work on Special Projects, Early Warning, and Rapid Response.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage, organize, screen, draft, and review legal cases, pleadings, and memoranda;
Support in review of documents, requests, complaints/grievances, and/or appeals that require the attention of the Chief Commissioner;
Support in coordinating responses to queries/requests, and reports to national, regional, and international stakeholders regarding OCC’s activities;
Support EHRC in the review and adoption of EHRC’s Early Warning (EW) and Rapid
Response (RR) Strategies and in their implementation;
Support the development of the necessary tools and database to enhance implementation of the EW and RR Strategies;
Support OCC’s capacity building activities for relevant EHRC departments on EW and RR Strategy related tools, and database;
Support in the execution of OCC special projects;
Support the Chief Commissioner and OCC Director in OCC’s other functions as required.
Generic Duties of the Position:
With guidance from the Director of OCC, support the Office in building its overall capacity in delivering its functional responsibilities and strategic plans.
Carry out other activities as may be assigned by the Director of OCC or the Chief Commissioner.
REPORT TO: Director, Office of the Chief Commissioner
DURATION: Open/indefinite Contract
SALARY RANGE: Gross monthly salary of ETB 19, 157.00 -ETB 22,817.00 plus ETB 6,000.00 Housing allowance and ETB 1,500.00 Transport allowance, depending on candidate’s qualification, experience and earning history
Job Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
MA/LL. B in Human Rights, LL.M. in Human Rights, International Law, or in Law (Public Law relevant to Human Rights)
Candidates with Master of Laws (LL.M.) in human rights will be given priority.
4 years of relevant experience for LL. B and 2 years of relevant experience for MA.
Computer Literate
Knowledge of Amharic is required.
Knowledge of other local languages is advantageous.
