Job Description

Hiwot Ethiopia was established in 1995. It has been working for the well being of children and youth in Ethiopia. It has been delivering a range of multi-year programs on health, education, child rights/projection, livelihood, gender equality and disability with a number of local and international partners. Hiwot Ethiopia, by the financial support of the Freedom Fund has been implementing safer migration project in Addis Ababa and would like invite interested applicants for the following vacant position.

General Overview of the position

The Safer Migration Project officer will use her/his in-depth contextual understanding, technical expertise, and relationship building skills to define and deliver our strategic ambition for safer migration of women and girls in Ethiopia. The role will implement safer migration project in collaboration of project coordinator and the target groups such as Recruitment agencies, key government offices, law enforcement bodies and CSOs for safer and protective migration and improve the response of government and recruitment agencies.

The Project officer will also responsible for developing strong internal and external relations with the target groups.

Key roles and responsibilities

  • Responsible for the day to day project implementation 
  • Responsible for monthly, quarterly and semiannual planning, Responsible to deliver trainings workshops, seminars, forums, meetings and trainings
  • Responsible to understand migrants during any form of communication
  • Responsible to safeguarding the stakeholders from any form of abuse and harms
  • Responsible for the effective and efficient utilization of activity based resources ( human, budget, supplies and equipments) in cloth consultation and collaboration of project coordinator and administration and finance department
  • Responsible to maintain a close working relationship with subordinates, supervisors as well as other staffs of the organization
  • Responsible for preparing monthly quarterly, semi-annual and annual report based on the desired timeline and reporting formats
  • Responsible for strengthening partnership and communication with target stakeholders
  • Responsible to give timely oral/ written notification and report about any defects and/ or challenges that possibly occur to the project implementation.
  • Responsible to organizing and facilitate child safeguarding and PSEA awareness for volunteers, beneficiaries and other community representatives for humanitarian response
  • Responsibly to ensure child safeguarding and PSEA messages are displayed in local language at project level

Report to: Project coordinator

Terms of employment: one year contract with possible extension

Place of work: Addis Ababa with frequent travel of the organization project site

Job Requirements

Qualification

  • Suitable candidates should have BA degree and above in sociology, social work and management.
  • At least 5 years work experience on social Work, Child Protection/ Child Welfare, migration or related qualification. NGOs experience is required to the position.

Required Knowledge, skills and competencies

  • Proven work experience as a project officer or other similar tasks
  • Proven work experience on proposal writing
  • Proven ability in project cycle management
  • Proven knowledge on safeguarding children and adult at risk
  • Good understanding of Child Right, migration and migrants issues
  • Good knowledge of public policies on promotion of safer migration
  • Proven advocacy, representation, training and facilitation skills
  • Ability to develop strong professional relationships and collaborations externally with stakeholders, and internally across functions, projects, and teams
  • Understanding and experience in monitoring and evaluation
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to train and others
  • Ability to work effectively in a complex, fast-paced, and multi-cultural environment
  • Ability to work with, understand, and motivate other people as individuals or in groups
  • Good oral and written Communication skills of both Amharic and English
