JOB PURPOSE

The Customs Clearing Assistant will be responsible for the customs clearance activities and overall coordination of customs clearance for imports and exports.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Main Functions

• Preparation of customs documentation to ensure that any shipments either imported or exported meet all applicable regulatory requirements.

Specific Responsibilities

• Coordinate the shipment and clearance process of goods procured by the African Union.
• Coordinate and communicating with Clearing Agents and other key stakeholders like the ministry of Foreign Affairs.
• Prepare documentation and obtain clearing agent delegation letter, processing duty free exemptions and other required letters and documents in liaison with Protocol.
• Provide status updates on customs clearance activities on request.
• Prepare periodic reports and statistics on activities. Review progress and status reports as required.
• Provide advice and guidance to management and other stakeholders on all aspects of customs clearance.
• Maintain a proper filing and recording system for all activities.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Academic Qualifications

• Diploma in Supply Chain, Procurement, Transportation, Business Administration, Management, or related field from recognized institution and three years relevant experience

Or

• Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Procurement, Transportation, Business Administration, Management, or related field from recognized institution and two years relevant experience
• Experience in shipping and freight logistics, customs or procurement
• Certification in related field is an added advantage

Experience

• Relevant number of years’ experience in a Government, Public Sector or International Organization.

Functional Skills

• Sound planning and organizational skills.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Strong communication ability both orally and in writing.
• Ability to work independently, take initiative and ability to meet deadlines with attention to detail.

Languages

• Fluency in English including excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Fluency in French, Arabic or Portuguese is desirable.
• Knowledge of two or more AU languages would be an added advantage.
